if all you want to do is archive, I would just simply right click/control click on the folder that you want to archive and select create archive. This will create a zip file of that folder, giving you a single self contained package thus avoiding the extensions problem.

Better yet tell them the at you must have the new Final Cut Server software it runs on both Mac & Windows.

First off tell him it is a big NO NO to mess with previously set up accounts, if he wants an account with a different name, create a new name and move data over.

Look in the users folder most likely there is another folder in there that contains all the data. Unless he also moved it somewhere else on the computer. You can also do a search for the name of one of the missing files and see there it actually is.

You also may want to look into not giving everyone administrator access. If the person did not have administrator access then he could not have messed the system up like this.

The reason I say that is because many DVD players out there will not play a RW disk. And if you give a disk to a client that they can’t play then it doesn’t matter that they are using an older DVD player you are the one that looks bad. It just leaves you open to to many potential problems and additional work, and possibly loosing a client because the DVD didn’t work when they needed it to.

Audio and Video conversions, are a BIG one quickly convert a mp3 to a AIFF for compatibility with FPC for example, the ability to quickly cut a small portion of a video out, save a small portion of a video file as a new fail of its own, quickly save a video frame as a image file, full screen playing a a video file, the ability to loop a file. etc, etc, etc

I and many other quicktime users use other features of quicktime much much more then to just save a quicktime file.

That feature is NOT the main feature in quicktime pro, and it is NOT the only major feature if quicktime pro.

Most likely it could only recover part of the file, and there is no way to fix a file like that.

I would never give a unfinalized disc to a client, especially a RW, You will run into all sorts of problems with them trying to play it.

Again how long are the videos that you need to send them?

If the length is long enough then file sizes may be to large. If it takes you a long time to upload the file and it tales the client a long time to download the file it may be best to just send a DVD.
