Capturing to a USB drive will always cause dropped frames, NEVER NEVER NEVER use a USB drive for video work.

And you are not using the Apple Intermediate Codec because you said that you are capturing as DV.

The Apple Intermediate Codec is used as an alternative to editing in native HDV, it is used to avoid the GOP structure of HDV.

Once the camera is in HDV to DV down convert mode then it will be recognized just like any other miniDV camera in FCP.

It sounds like ether your capture settings, your sequence settings, or both are not set right.

Sounds like a Kernal Panic.
