Much easier to go with stock footage and fake a TV announcer and graphics., after all is it only in the background, going to all the work of filming a game and getting all the players to and everyone else to sign wavers is a lot of work. The Cost of stock footage would probably be cheeper then paying all the crew that you would need.

Oh and it is also possible that it could cause problems with firmware. If it was run on one computer then the others may think that it has been run when it really hasn’t been run on them.

Are you just plugging in the Firewire drive then turning it on, or do you hold down the option key and choose the drive to boot from. if you are doing the first then check the start up disk setting in system preferences.

You have no drive in the system with an OS on it. You should keep a drive in computer with the OS on it. Booting from a FW drive is great for troubleshooting potential problems, and for running drive optimization or disk repair, but I do see some potential problems with the way you have been doing things.

One problem I see especially when working with video, is that you are using the one Firewire bus on the computer to connect to your OS drive. Any other firewire devices connected would add more traffic in the firewire pipeline, and it may overwhelm it.

As long as you stick to basic DV then I would still dump the USB drive and get a firewire drive that has a second firewire connection on it. I have rarely seen a drop frame on capture this way, you can still get dropped frames on playback, especially if you have several video streams playing at one time.

When editing video NEVER conceder USB an option.

It is grayed out because you cannot run a repair on a drive that you are booted from.

Boot from your install disk and run a repair. You should back up your data first though, because if disc utility cannot fix it then the beast way to fix it is to reformat the drive and reinstall the OS. Some people may say to try disk warrior, but I say that the cleanest way to solve a that kind of problem if disk utility cannot fix it is to just erase and start over.
