Having a problem with my internal hard drive. Occasionally I repair permissions and verify my disks on the computer. When I choose verify on my internal hard drive the process times out and this is the message I get:

    Verifying volume

[Bruce] “But after I get this message the “Repair Disk” option is grayed out and I cannot choose it. What do I do? The computer is running fine otherwise.”

It is grayed out because you cannot run a repair on a drive that you are booted from.

Boot from your install disk and run a repair. You should back up your data first though, because if disc utility cannot fix it then the beast way to fix it is to reformat the drive and reinstall the OS. Some people may say to try disk warrior, but I say that the cleanest way to solve a that kind of problem if disk utility cannot fix it is to just erase and start over.
