    Hi all,

Before I spend a fortune at the Apple store to get this fixed I thought I’d give you folks a try.

I have a G4 17″ PB – one of the first so about 3-4 years old… 1.33 MHz 80 GB 2 GB Ram. Running the latest Tiger OSX. 10.4.9

Suddenly, a few weeks ago, my computer started to crash. A veil would descend and a message in several languages informed me that I needed to restart. When restarted, a window would pop up informing me that OSX had crashed prior to shut down.

And then… seconds or sometimes minutes later, it would re-occur. Sometimes with variations: white text in black highlight boxes scrolling down my screen, or possibly just a freeze up…

I did get a reprieve for a few weeks when it suddenly worked fine until I had to restart for software updates and then it started all over again…

I re-installed OSX. Nothing changed except that I lost a bunch of my licenses etc…

Any thoughts? I’ve run Disk Utilities… no help…

    HELP!?!?!?!

    Thanks

    Sounds like a Kernal Panic.

It is quite possible that it is being caused by some bad hardware in the computer. You should sign up for an appointment your nearest Apple Store and let them take a look at it.

Ow, the transparent screen of death. I’ve run into this mainly from 2 things, bad RAM or video card problem. For instance not concerning your problem, but Maya when running in Dual Monitor mode with two video cards will crash OS X like this.
Maybe there is a software problem anything that runs with raw opengl commands can cause this. Also if RAM is damaged or not put in properly(might even have popped out a little) could crash OS X.

Just a few thoughts, hope you get it working!
