You cant just add to a raid you must create a whole new raid, and to create that new raid you must erase the drives to do so. When creating a raid you need to keep all the drive the same size..

A few questions
– How are you bringing the Motion asset into FCP, are you exporting or just bringing in the motion project file?
– Do your Motion Project settings match your FCP timeline settings?
– have you completely rendered in FCP?

Chill out man.

They are only offering it at the places they are because they know they at they will get good turn outs there. Those places are MUCH larger markets, and larger markets mean more people.

These seminars are held in large convention centers and they jam in as many people as they can. You just basically set there for hours listening to them talk and watch then show you things projected on a screen. As far as hands on things there is probably little to none.

Look at it from Apples perspective. Who do you want to reach the most? The people with the most to spend right. And the people with the most to spend are most likely located in the large markets.

There is not one located near me, I am located in Utah. And I am certainly not going to complain because I would have to travel to see it. If I can expense an little vacation an an opportunity to visit family in LA then great.

Sounds like you could use a vacation. I would look into hiring additional help, but do it right I have seen people hire additional people with out knowing how to handle an employee, what proper compensation should be etc. And because of this anyone they hire ends up hating them and so they leave.

If it is a long form project then keeping it on the computer is fine, how ever just make sure that you charge bill them for drives to keep there projects on. Keep a copy on your raid and an addition al copy on the separate drive they payed for.

You don’t need to change the type of project you take on just how you manage them.

You can also keep the project file and other assets on computer, so that you do not have to go looking for a disk, however I would recommend if you keep them on the computer that you also have a copy on disk as a backup.

What I do is a have a set folder template of how files are organized, every new project I duplicate the template and rename it. I then add my assets to the appropriate folder music, artwork, etc. Anytime I use an additional application like motion or soundtrack those motion or sound track files get saved in the corresponding folder. Once I am done all you need to do is delete captured video, render files, etc. Then you just burn the rest onto a data DVD and if you like keep it on the computer as well. What’s left us usually will fit on a signal data DVD. When you need it again just start the recapture, you can be doing other things while it dose, phone calls billing, lunch etc.

If you would like I will send you a copy of my New Project Template just give me your email (essentially it is just a bunch of empty folders) but if you are considering hiring an employee or two having everyone use the same one gives consistency to everything.

You cannot monitor HDV through firewire, this is because gop structure of HDV. Before HDV can go out through fire wire it must be conformed because cuts are made in-between the gop iFrames, new iFrames must be created, these iFrames are created during the conforming.

If you are going to be working in HDV you really should learn as much as you can about the HDV format, it is in many ways a whole world of its own. Check out article in the Oct issue of the Creative Cow Magazine.

WOW I have never known any one that offers changes up to a year later. I and everyone else I know offers a preview viewing where the client can request changes, then there is a final viewing. Any changes that are requested after that are billed extra. If no requests are made at the final viewing then the project is mastered and taken off of the computer. If the client called later asking for changes then they are billed hourly for those changes.

As long as you logged the clips before capturing it is easy to recapture later. You burn the project file and any other data files such as music and artwork to a Data DVD when mastering, there for all you have to do is copy it back over to the computer and recapture. They are paying by the hour for these extra changes so it is no sweat off your back. If the client wishes to have there media kept on the computer for quicker changes in the future then you bill them for the price of an additional drive to keep just there projects on.

Is there a reason that you need to have years of editing still on the computer I always make it a practice to only keep ongoing projects on my computer once it is edited and mastered to tape it is taken off of the computer.

Since you are daisy chaining your extreme from your express you cannot use 802.11n. The set work is type can only be as fast as the fastest type in common between the two base stations, which in your case is 802.11g.
