Even when recording directly to a hard drive it is also a vary good idea to simultaneously record to tape as a back up.

How long is the video, if it is to long, by the time you get the file small enough the video will look horrible. Depending on the length of the file it may be easier and faster to put it to DVD and mail it. You have to factor in encoding time, the time it takes to upload the video, and the time it takes to download the video on the other end. If the video is a long one, then to keep the quality decent the file size will he vary big, thus making your upload time and the clients download time long. Like I said it may be better to mail a DVD.

[Wally] “Try Snapz Pro. It gives you audio, video and stills. I’ve had great success with it.
“he is trying to capture video from a tape not from the screen
What type of hard drives are you use to capture the video to. Is it USB? USB drive cannot sustain a constant speed that is fast enough for video.
You said that you are using Final Cut Express, this is the Final Cut Pro forum.

It sounds like there might be a problem with your camera you should have it checked out.
As far as the audio goes try running it through a audio program like soundtrack if you are on a mac of you are on a PC I have no clue what app to try.

[lightning ad] “When the client decides decides at the last minute that the pack shot that was filmed weeks ago is crap, and wants to change it (with only an hour or so before the ad needs to be submitted) and you have to make the product suddenly zing!…..
…or you want to make a composite effect stand out from the crowd, and really don’t want to use another Lens Flare…..where do you guys go for your inspiration?
what fuels your new ideas? “Well one the biggest incentives and inspirations is the significant extra fee that you charge them for doing it entirely over with a tight deadline.

[edit] “You just have to remember that older PC’s (windows) is not as friendly with pictures and video and large downloads as Macs are. Something about viruses and Trojan horses… 🙂
“All they need is a fast internet connection and the newest version of quicktime. Viruses, Trojan horses (which is a type of virus) and spyware can effect ANY windows computer old and new. They can slow the entire computer down, but like I said they can effect ANY windows computer old and new.

Creating a website with iWeb on the mac is easy, then you cam publish to your .Mac account with a click of a button. Then just purchase a domain name with a place like godaddy.com and have it automatically forward it to your .Mac domain name, and also have it mask the name so that people see your domain name.
Host it yourself.

[maziska] “isk utility on Mac wouldn’t let me create another boot drive because it is already a boot disk”
To partition a disk into multiple partitions, or to go from 2 partitions to 1 you must reformat the drive. Boot from the install disk to do this. Once you have reformatted the disk, then create your two partitions. Once you have the partitions created you can then choose which partition to install the OS on, you can then go and install another OS on the other partition.
I have never heard of GParted but after a quick look at their website, and seeing that it lets you change partition sizes, tells me that it is not creating a full partition but more of an imaginary partition that is adjustable.
To create a full multiple partition that you can install the OS on you must erase the drive and then create your multiple partitions using disk utility.
Why do you need 10.4.8 & a 10.4.9 at the same time? I see no real reason why one should need both. Just one 10.4.9 should be fine. The update was to fix small problems with 10.4.8.

[JeremyG] “I do constantly look to the cow for weight loss advice :-D”
Sorry it has just been one of those days.
However that might be a good topic for a new forum. Ways to loose weight for those don’t leave their computer, because they spend to much time on the cow.

[sheldonhull] “Is the the normal way for editors to line up…. is that why they use the take 1, take 2 etc with the gadget that I don’t know what its called, a many times shows seconds and countdown numbers, is this for the editors to align?”
A clap board has several uses. The part that claps together can be used to help sync up several cameras in post but they are usually used to help sync up audio in post. Film cameras do not record audio that is recorded separate, also many people who shoot on tape will also record to a separate device to get better quality audio.
The writing on a clap board like Scene 8 Take 3, is used to more quickly locate the best takes from a shoot. Simple noted during filming can save a lot of time in editing.
