The graphics card in a macbook is not supported by FCP, I have heard of some hacks but you will get much better performance from a macbook pro

I have seen some cheepo cameras only play back the tapes that they recorded, most likely this is because the cheeper heads become misaligned more easily.

I would say take to cameras to the shoot. One camera doing more of a wide shot, and the other camera doing more of a close up. This way you can always cut to the other.

Have you ever used a system with 10 different users logged in at once, you will take a big hit on performance.

My best guess is that the drivers are not compatible with the updated OS, try the manufactures web site and see if there is a newer driver.

You did not answer all the questions I asked. What is the make and model of the fire wire card, it is possible that it is not compatible with macs or with your model of mac.

Exactly which model computer do you have and what brand and model card did you put in it?

First ask for the origonal tapes, the DVD files are compressed and you should always try and avoid aviting previously compressed video.
