Sounds like you ran the Leopard install as an upgrade, instead of erasing the drive completely and starting with a FRESH install of the new OS.
You should have cloned your boot drive and then completely erased it and started fresh.

Yes it is an infomercial, and the purpose of an infomercial is to SELL the product. Randall is completely right, yes there are some really great technical effects like the keying, but clients do not care what technical aspects what into what they are paying for, ALL they care about is if it is a overall good product and whether or not it will do what it is supposed to do.
In this case it is supposed to sell the product. Does it do that? In my opinion NO! I mean absolutely no offense by saying that.
The reason I believe that it does not sell the product is because the actors intend to be serious but come off CHEEZY. Most people immediately discredit a product when the advertisement comes across cheesy then they are trying to come across as serious. Being cheesy on purpose can work at times, but you must be aware that you are doing it.
Personally for me it was fine right up until the time the “fake” actors “tried” to act. I would hire some “quality” actors and have them do some “believable” user comments. I would also place those actors in a place like an airport and have them say how it affected the flight they just got off, that could also help it be more believable.
Bottom line is the actors MUST come off believable that they really to use the product in real life.

It is possible that ether your media files or your project files are corrupt some how.
Trash your preference files and try a different project with entirely different media. it that works ok them it is definitely a corrupt project file or media.

I don’t believe it is an option, it is not in the preferences for Mail.
Having that quick view is SUPPER nice no having to actually open the document to see what is in it.

The license is for ONE copy of the software to be running at a time. Yes you can have it on one desktop and one laptop at the same time but the license is still to use ONE at a time
You want to run two copies of the software at the same time so two licenses are required.
Buy another copy!

You should also try connecting it to another computer just to check. It could be the 800 to 800 cable.
From your original post it sounds like you have only had the drive a few days, so I would return it.

Check your cables, and I would even test the drive on a different computer, that would tell you if the drive itself is bad.

Open disk utility and see if it shows up in there, and if it will let you force mount it.

Do you have extra room on your clip before your in point and after your out point? There must be a little extra video there so that it has something to use in the dissolve.

No by default iTunes will make a audio CD.
Even so FCP does not likes MP3’s ether, so doing that will do you no good, my previous post clearly stated that. Both MP3’s and MP4’s are compressed audio formats, and FCP does NOT like compressed audio.
You will need co convert the file into a AIFF or a WAV file, nether of those files types are as compressed.
