How can I run FCP on 2 macs on the same network?
Posted by Nelson May on January 7, 2008 at 6:03 pmI am trying to increase my productivity and I have a G4 and a G5. While editing, I want to render files with the other computer. When ever I am fully on my network, I get a message saying the same software with and identical serial number is already running on the network. As I have always understood it, a EULA allows installation on a desktop and laptop, for remote use, but it also says that you are allowed to install it on two computers. I haven’t seen any restrictions. Is there a way I can get FCP and Studio to run on both MACs for greater productivity?

January 7, 2008 at 6:13 pmNo. You need to buy another license if you want to use them simultaneously on a network.

Not with a network, no. This requires two copies, two serial numbers.

The understanding in that scenario is that they are not being used at the same time, which would be the same as 2 computers with the same s#, as long as they are not being used at the same time, which is why the network is checking.
More productivity should mean more money and the ability to buy another copy of FCS.

January 7, 2008 at 7:28 pmThe license is for ONE copy of the software to be running at a time. Yes you can have it on one desktop and one laptop at the same time but the license is still to use ONE at a time
You want to run two copies of the software at the same time so two licenses are required.
Buy another copy!

January 7, 2008 at 10:51 pmActually I called Apple about that, and they said that they will not support the FCP on ONE Desktop AND ONE Laptop anymore. Since Many people are now using the Laptop as their main computer for editing. So NOW the license only states ONE COMPUTER OVERALL.

January 22, 2010 at 1:57 amSam what you are telling people to do is illegal.
The FCP licence is for one use, so running the app on two machines at the same time is a clear violation of the licance agrement.
And keep in mind that posting on a public forum telling people to break the law is not smart Sam.

January 22, 2010 at 3:25 amI agree on the legality, as much as I wished Apple would allow you to run two machines. The only thing I ever use in tandem is compressor. Sometimes I am under the gun and have to batch jobs on two machines. I just disable the airport until I am finished. I think Apple should at least allow the use of compressor on multiple machines. It just makes out job easier when we are under the gun.
My two cents.

February 11, 2010 at 5:45 pmThanks Sam…I had just posted the same question on several forums and didn’t have any luck. We have FCP on our network and have several users who need to be on it at the same time. Little Snitch works great. Now all of my editors can use FCP w/out having to unplug their network cable.
