    Ok this is messed up.

Just upgraded my system (8 core, 8gigs of Ram) to Leopard. Thank God I did it between projects because it’s totally f’d up FCP6 as far as I can tell.

I wanted to export a few clips from the project I was working on (which is finisheed) but each time I tried, FCP crashed. Now when I open it, sometimes I get a message saying “no movie in file”. The files are prores 422 (HQ) and they are there… on the hard drive just like always. I tried reconnecting with no luck. What’s weird is that it doesn’t show up as unconnected media in the timeline and canvas. In the timeline is looks like normal (except w/out the thumbnails) and the canvas window is just black. same thing if I try to load it into the viewer. just black.

tried copying the footage from that sequence to a new project and got the same thing (NOTHING!)

what is going on with this??

oh.. also tried exporting an xml document and opening that. doesn’t work.

what the heck is going on?? Any ideas? I’d trash the prefs but can’t remember how in FCPS2. urgh…

It’s been one of those days 🙁

one more thing: when I try to export as a self contained QT movie (just to see what happens) I get an error that says “I/O error” and yes… I do have in and out points marked (on the seemingly imaginary footage) :/

[scalvidgal] “Just upgraded my system to Leopard.”

Sounds like you ran the Leopard install as an upgrade, instead of erasing the drive completely and starting with a FRESH install of the new OS.

You should have cloned your boot drive and then completely erased it and started fresh.

Was your sequence COMPLETELY rendered? Make sure ALL of your check marks are selected under render settings.

FYI, get yourself FCP rescue 6. That will safely back up your prefs and trash them.

A total scorched earth and reinstall of everything is the universally espoused wisdom but I hold it is not absolutely necessary at all.

Of course, I may have to eat my words when we upgrade our 15 Macs to Leopard later in the year. We won’t dive in until Adobe and Microsoft support Leopard with Office and CS3 patches.

This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”

wanted to note that I had this problem and it was because FCP was confused about the location of a snippet of video that I had moved between drives a couple of times. Reimporting helped.
