[Mark Griesbauer] ” we will need to edit some projects in SD and distribute them in SD.”
How are you distributing in SD? If it is just a DVD, then that is simple. if it is in a tape format then you can do it in a couple of ways. The best way is to use a Kona card that can convert the signal on output. Or you can always nest your HD sequence on a SD timeline, render and then send to tape.
I am a big fan of always editing in HD if you have the ability because then you have an HD master that you can use if down the road you end up needing to redistribute in HD. Sales you the hassle of redoing the whole thing.

It is widely known that OLD software like yours will have issues with NEW updates to quicktime.

First try booting from your install disk and running a repair on the drive, if that does not you will have to back up your data, erase the drive and reinstall the OS.

February 12, 2008 at 4:43 pm in reply to: Pros & Cons of multiple Users in home environment[Neil Ryan] “Can that work using the internal drive? Why an external one? “
You can use the internal system drive, but you MUST put the libraries in the shared folder otherwise not every user will have access to it.
[Neil Ryan] “Does that prevent duplication of files? (Songs or Photos) “
YES like I said every user account that has the iTunes and iPhoto library set to the one on the external or the one in the shared folder, will see the exact same library, same playlists in iTUnes, and same albums n iPhoto. They are each referencing the EXACT SAME library.

February 12, 2008 at 7:25 am in reply to: Pros & Cons of multiple Users in home environmentWell first off you should at least have a separate user account for the kids even if it is just one account for all of them. You should not give them administrator rites on the computer, YOU should be the one who determines what gets installed on the computer. You can also set the itunes & iphoto libraries to be on an external drive, and then set each user account to look for the library on the external drive.

[Jeff Beaumont] “Going back to an even earlier verion of QT will only make things worse. Espercially since Apple provides no uninstall utilities. “
QuickTime is a CORE component in the OS so there CAN’T be an uninstall utility for it. That would be like having a uninstaller for a OS update. It affects SO MANY things that one CANNOT just simply uninstall it.
[Jeff Beaumont] “re-installed 7.3.1 on one of our systems when an Editor made an unauthorised upgrade to QT7.4; and experienced much pain to get the system stable again. “
You really should be using a non administrator account on any system that you don’t want anybody to change things. Don’t give them the ability to mess it up in the first place.

[Steve Kownacki] “I’m almost done with a new 50-page employee handbook that I’ve developed with my HR consultant that details all this stuff. It’s been fun running the show the last 16+ years, but as I look to passing on the torch someday, I really want to create a business model that goes along with our culture and not just what fancies Steve from day to day.”
That is so important. I once worked for a guy ran his place by his “day to day fancies”. There were about 6 of up there, of the 6 a couple were let go then the boss flipped out like he did on occasion, and the rest all left on there own because they didn’t like working for a guy who funs a place by his day to day fancies.
Needless to say that the guy has now basically lost not only his employees, but his business because of other shoddy deals of his.
Karma will come around and get you eventually.
I love the fact that you have an HR consultant, I personally think that any business with even one employee (beside the owner of course) should have one.
