Dropping Frames when editing HDV
Hi there,
I’m using Final Cut Studio 5 and running what I like to think is a fairly fast G5, and yet it will drop frames and run almost unusably slow when editing HDV and even when I’m editing complicated Standard Def timelines. I’m wondering if there is something in my hardware that can be upgraded to have the computer run faster.
Here are my specs:
Processor: Dual 1.8 Ghz PowerPC G5
L2 Cache (per CPU): 512 KB
Memory: 2.25 GB DDR SDRAM
Bus Speed: 900 MHzGraphics Card:
GeForce FX 5200
VRAM: 64 MB -

And where is your footage stored? WHat hard drive? It should not be on the system drive…that will cause dropped frames.

It’s being stored on my external hard drive using a firewire 800.

How is that drive formatted?

How full is the drive?

It’s still got 130 Gigs left, it’s a 500GB Lacie. This seems to have always been a problem, no matter which drive I use.
Could it be a hardware issue?
