Where you are using multi clips, then keep in mind that hard drive speed & connectivity speed will play a big part in how well that performance.
With a Macbook Pro you can add a esata card and a esata raid to the machine for faster drive speed and faster connectivity speed (esata is 2x as fast as FW800)

To insure that the client has the latest version of quicktime, just ask them to download and instal the latest version of iTunes quicktime will get installed at the same time.

If there is not a hard drive also on the selection screen then the computer is not seeing any bootable hard drive at all.
What type of machine did this old boot disk come from?

YUP EXACTLY, if you have any more questions there have been a ton of posts about this on this forum and the DVD SP forum, a search will bring up a lot of info.

WOW thats a big order.
First off ANY video 45 min in length that is in a editing format (not in a highly compressed delivery format) is going to be a LARGE file for the internet. For example 1 hour of HDV video is about 13 GB. So depending on the internet connection the people downloading them have it could easily take ALL day.
Second, not all editing systems will play with the same types of video files. For example When capturing video in HDV in FCP it can only be played on a computer that has FCP on it.
One other thing to consider is having the people do offline edits for you. in doing this you should have them using the EXACT same version of editing system you are. you post low quality videos, they download them edit the video and then send you the project file. You then reconnect the project with the full quality clips and export the finished product.
If all the clips where small that would be one thing, but with HD clips that are 45 min long, uploading and downloading clips wold just take way to long.

Stephen he knows that people want to help, but I think that some people may not be fully understanding him. It sounds to me that his auto-save was set to the same drive that was erased and copied over with the older back up.
Stu in the future I would sagest keeping your project file on a separate drive from the media, and also have leave the auto-save location set to the same place no matter what project you are on. I keep all my project files and auto save located on the system drive separate from the media files. I then use time machine to have my system drive backed up once an hour.

When a file on any computer is deleted it is still technically there its just kinda ignored, however once that sector of the hard drive is overwritten by a new file, the old file is then completely gone (or at least extremely difficult to get to).
You can try Data RescueX but with the file being over written I honestly don’t think you will get anything.
