Ok a little confusing do you want to make a quicktime file or a DVD?

As for as DVD’s on windows goes what is the DVD playing software you are using? If you are using windows media player, I have heard that it is crapy for playing DVD’s.

Sounds like a bloated corupt file. You should be fine to delete it. I saw the same thing happen once with a photo file.

What format is your original footage? What are your timeline settings?
Is it graphics that look bad or reguler video to?
Why not encode with compressor and use DVD Studio Pro? (gives you much much more controle)

It’s not up to the TV it’s up to the DVD player.

But yes a DVD player should play a 16:9 DVD on a 4:3 TV. It will just letterbox it and put black bars on the top and bottom of the screen.

With out seeing the whole error message it’s hard to say, but my guess would be time machine is attempting to backup a file that is in use. The reason I suspect that is because you say it’s does not always happen.
