Autoring in Mac for but to be used in mac and pc
Posted by Thomas Mazzarella on February 7, 2009 at 7:10 pmI would like to know how to Author A Quicktime Clip in Mac environment , and make it work in a pc. I have an HD Quicktime clip that I have put in Toast and also DVD Studio pro software. I plays both of these fine in the mac’s and in regular DVD players. For some reason they don’t play back in PC’s. I did get it to play in one PC but the picture is jittery and skips frames. Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong?

Ok a little confusing do you want to make a quicktime file or a DVD?
As for as DVD’s on windows goes what is the DVD playing software you are using? If you are using windows media player, I have heard that it is crapy for playing DVD’s.

February 8, 2009 at 4:43 pmExport using current settings, then bring that into compressor and use the DVD presets. Bring the outputed files into DVD Studio Pro and create your DVD.
If you have more questions creating the DVD do a search of the cow forums there are tons of posts about the topic.
That will create a standard DVD. If the windows computer cannot play it then it is because the windows computer lacks ether DVD playing software, a DVD drive, or both. You cannot control what the windows user has in there computer.

February 9, 2009 at 11:45 amI think I have the same problem:
I exported a Quick Time file from Final Cut Pro. I runs on Mac but on PC it doesn’t work. Think I need some extra codec plug-in related to Quick Time on my PC. Probably the same problem as the other fellow. Any suggestions?Rgds Brian

Try doing a search on the cow about creating a video file that will play on PCs there are a lot of posts about that. If you still have questions, start a new question thread.

February 9, 2009 at 10:49 pmJust to clarify for the original poster- make sure you use the SD settings in Compressor, and not the evil HD-DVD settings hiding below. If you’re letting DVDSP do the encoding for you AND you imported an HD video (ie- did not downconvert to SD in FCP before exporting) then DVDSP will make an HD DVD by default. This sounds like what you might have already done. If you have more than 2 folders on your DVD (should just be Video_TS and Audio_TS) then you’ve made an HD-DVD. These will play on Macs. I did this by mistake a few weeks ago, I should know 😉
If there are just those 2 folders, then it’s a software issue on the PC. The components to play burned DVDs aren’t usually included on some of the older OSs. The user has to buy them. Total pain, but welcome to DVD authoring.
