Thanks, Richard. Any specific models you know to perform well? I had some recommendations, but they were all over $1000 (not to mention included 3D capabilities, which I have no need of).

Re: calibration, I’m mostly doing web work and mostly just need something reliable and consistent. Do I need to invest in something like an X-rite, or can I get by on ol’ fashioned color bars?

    Thanks much,
    -Zak

I recently spoke with some BMD reps at a show in NYC, and was assured the Intensity works fine and support would not be “disappearing” any time soon.

Well, the simple answer is that I like Resolve a lot. And as you say, there’s not much else in Resolve’s tier; obviously Color is no longer an option, and while Speedgrade looks interesting, Resolve’s integration with FCP (and FCPX) fits well into my current workflow.

I am indeed on a tower. Not sure what the iMac solution would be, Intensity Exteme I’m guessing. As for dual monitoring, I’d probably have to switch between DVI and HDMI inputs.

As has been reccommended to me on the Resolve forum, I may just buy a small Plasma TV and be done with it.

  • Might I suggest DaVinci Resolve “Basic” (a la the FCP forum) instead? I don’t think it’s unreasonable to assume that there could be advanced questions from Lite users (or even vice-versa, as people who buy a BMD Cinema Camera receive free copies of Resolve), nor does it seem in line with COW philosophy to create a walled garden of experts in the Resolve forum…

Thanks for the suggestion, but that’s sort of veering away from the low-budget idea (see question 2 in the original post)

This may be faulty logic, but wouldn’t I want to grade based on the majority of viewing devices, which wouldn’t be sRGB? Like an album producer using $10 speakers to mix?

Thanks for the suggestions, Juan. I am indeed using Resolve Lite, though I think the question applies equally to both versions.

Are you referring to the LED, LCD, or Plasma version of the Viera?

Obviously the gamut etc is limited by the monitor itself, but would you place any stock in desktop calibration, i.e. a Spyder?

April 12, 2012 at 3:13 pm in reply to: Resolve 8.2 -> FCP X xml 1.1 import bug

Oh, my problem didn’t involve the big file thing, just the export to XML 1.1 and subsequent “Element sequence content does not follow the DTD” error. I was coming from FCPX in the first place.

For what it’s worth, I opened up the XML Resolve made and it turns out to be empty. Which would explain the DTD error…

Had the same problem, exporting to XML 1.0 instead of 1.1 seems to fix it.
