    I created different LUTs from the Arri website LUT generator and up to now have not been happy with them.
    Keep on try next week when back in studio.

    You are right, Andrew, Resolve is not a good compositing or keying tool. I ‘ve tried many things but havent ad another input yet.
    I’ll try this as soon as I am back in studio, but I’m almost sure it won’t make it, anyway!

    I trained 6 Directors of Photography last year on two handheld cameras: The Sony EX1 and Panasonic HVX200 (Don’t know if this is relevant for you as you compare with a 170)

    A the end, all of them commented the same way:
    The EX1 was the winner, for the following reasons:
    – Better resolution
    – Better low light capabilities
    – Better Depth of field control
    – Better ergonomics (yes!)
    – Better image ajustements.

    This comment comes from a Pal land. quite sure this wont change anything regarding a “ntsc” signal or 30 fps vs 25 fps.

    No, you cant shoot over 30 fps! In Pal land, where I am from, 25 fps is a much required feature.

    I expect good lowlight capabilities, considering the large CMOS sensor, but this should be tested.

    Yes, you are able to contol focusing and zooming while shooting. The answer is no for shutter speed and aperture

    You don’t need any extra adapter considering the large sensor. The DoF, should slighter more controllable than with any 35 mm HD camera.
    This could be a great B camera and why not, in some circomstances an impressive A camera.

    Hi Adam,

    I am afraid you cant playback XDCAM 422 on a G4 or G5 machine without any stuttering.
    I shoot XDCAM HD 1080P 25@35 Mb in PAL land and can’t obtain smooth playback on a G5.
    Only Intel Macs, MacPros and MacBooks play XDCAM HD or even XDCAM 422 fine, as decoding XDCAM HD is a procesor intensive task.

    I have no idea about the noisy footage.
    Let me know how it plays back on an Intel Mac.

    The Sony XDCAM EX3 should be available around mid-July.
    The Red One is another interesting thing but different animal. 4k and higher budget even if quite low compared to other high end HD ot 4k cameras

  • You should install the Sony XDCAM Transfer software on your Mac:
    I currently use the 2.5 release but 2.1 is OK.

    Plug your F350 camcorder with a firewire cable on the Mac.
    Your F350 should be set to I-Link mode FAM (Menu 10 in Operation menu).
    Once your XDCAM disk appears on your desktop, go to File>import>Sony XDCAM.
    The XDCAM Transfer opens with your proxy files visibles.Import of XDCAM HD files is quite fast.
    This way, you get native XDCAM HD on your drives.
    Quite simple and straitghtforward.

    “2GB DDR SRAM”. I think 2GD additionnal should be better…

    Yes, John Pale is right.

    Pal color bars do not exist. Pal is the wrong word for EBU (European Broadcast Union).
    This means, the color of any digital signal is digital and not Pal or Secam. A Pal signal is a composite signal (extracted from a digital or component analog video signal) used mainly in western Europe and Secam is a composite signal used mainly in France, Russia and eastern Europe.

    I live in France, and nobody here asks for a Secam color bar.
    Everyone from the consumer “amateur” video film maker up to the best post houses use a digital signal. This digital signal is then converted to Pal if necessary.
    Only broadcasters use Secam signals (Only for broacasting)

    By the way: Do you why Pal and Secam composite signals both exist?

    Because at the beginning of 60’s, President o France General De Gaulle wanted a french-german cooperation on color television but based on french rules(French developped Secam and german developped Pal at the same time). Germans refused.
    So, General de Gaulle offered the Secam system to the USSR and its european satellites.
    This was part of his changing vision of Europe from the Atlantic ocean to the Oural Montains…
