  • Timecode from audio track with FCP

Posted by Yves Chauvel on March 26, 2008 at 8:18 am

For a production to come, we’ll use different hdv camcorders with a Aaton GMT-S or Deneke SBT timecode generator.

This way, we’ll get the audio-LTC recorded on the unused audio track of the 4 cameras to synck all cameras with a Cantar sound recording system.

This is the only solution we found with different cameras having no timecode-in capabilities.

This method works with Avid Adrenaline, timecode can be extracted from audio tracks.

The queston is: Is there any way to get the timecode extracted from the audio tracks with FCP 6.0.2?
It seems this feature is not implemented yet.

    Anyone?

    Thanks

You could get a digi to chase to that LTC on the audio track, and dump to it at the same time.

Having said that, did you know that the Canon XL2 cams do time of day sync via remote control. Real handy for those cheaper productions.

    Not easy, i think.
Have a look to this device:

You would need to capture your footage with a video card with RS-422

    JVC DTV-17″
    SONY EX-1 . SONY PD170
..and always a big mess on top of the table.

    It is in fact easy:
(But since i’m the developer i might be a bit biased…)

This piece of software is also mentioned in the Cantar brochure on FCP workflows:

    This forum is incredibly active!
I did not expect receiving so many answers in less than a day.
    I think I’ll have to experiment a bit…
    Thank you to everyone
