Blue screen keying in Resolve
I’m currently using Arri Alexa Prores4444 LogC bluescreen footage shot in studio in Resolve 10 and can’t get viable keyed results for compositing with track 1 just below keyed original. I tried different key mixers but results are not acceptable with some blue remaining around the model’s blond hair.
I know this could be done with After Effets Keylight for example, but I don’t know it well, and am afraid my LogC flat image will be lost when back in Resolve fo grading.Any suggestion highly appreciated!

Keying (compositing keying, not qualifiers) is rarely accomplished with a single key or even a single technique. Almost always what’s required is multiple keys, masks, and other tricks to get a great result.

Also you normally tweak the image toward keying in a separate path.
To pull a decent key from alexa you NEED to use the Alexa LUT as a minimum, they use Ultimatte, Keylight, Primatte or just Smokes Modular keyer (which is what I would do) and they generate your key.
Export that as a blackNwhite Prores file into resolve and do your grade..A slice of color…

Obviously the Resolve is a not compositing tool, and it’s almost impossible to pull a clean and decent key and compose image over background. However, is you just need it clear enough for preview, you can use additional input node in your node tree (right click – Add Another Input), get Alexa LUT in it, tweak the bluescreen and key it out, and then pass the resulting key to Alpha Output (right click – Add Alpha Output), while feeding main output from your grade.

You are right, Andrew, Resolve is not a good compositing or keying tool. I ‘ve tried many things but havent ad another input yet.
I’ll try this as soon as I am back in studio, but I’m almost sure it won’t make it, anyway!Yves

I created different LUTs from the Arri website LUT generator and up to now have not been happy with them.
