Booyah! You hit the nail on the head. Thanks, problem solved.

Thanks. Yeah, I need it to be a HDV 1080 50i PAL QT MOV, so I guess it won’t work. No, I don’t need BITC.

Ok, I can get an output in 720×576, and I can get HDV 1440×1080 25 fps to show up on the video playback list, but it’s grayed out. I can get the image to display on the deck’s LCD monitor, but of course it squeezes it to 720×576.

Sure…
Ahem…
This is for digitizing 1080i 50 (PAL) HDV footage from a Sony HVR-M10U deck via firewire into FCP5.
The settings themselves were not that difficult, however I did have to reboot the Mac a few times to get everything to jive just right. Let’s just say that being hot-pluggable does not mean that it will work correctly the first time.
Under A/V Settings:
Sequence Preset to HDV – 1080i50
Capture Preset to HDV
Device Control Preset – Sony HDV 1080i50 Firewire (This showed up after connecting the deck and rebooting.)I then set my video playback to Apple firewire NTSC 720×480 (which worked fine for display on my external monitor).
Finally, with numerous reboots and a little luck, FCP saw everything at once (TC, video, and audio.) There was a bit of a lag between what was on my external monitor and what was on my FCP Log/Capture screen. I assume this was because of the firewire.
Now as for the deck’s settings. I had to manually switch it to 50i and HDV. This was crucial to getting Final Cut to see everything as well. You’ll find those options in the menu of the deck. I turned iLink Conv off. I made the downconvert option Letter Box (I guess that’s a personal preference.) That should be everything.

Never mind, problem solved.

Rats, thanks for the help.

You want to go to the path:
Library/Preferences/Final Cut Pro User Data
There you will find the Prefs file.
Drag it to the trash, and when you reboot your version of FCP will be like new.

Thanks for the tips. We figured it out. It was some more settings in FCP that we hadn’t tried. We didn’t realize that you needed to set the video playback as well to get a signal displaying in log and capture. Seems kind of wierd to me, but oh well.

Yeah, I’m certain that I have the right settings.
Control: AJA IO RS-422 NTSC
Capture: AJA IO 8-bit composite to US NTSC DVI’ve tried multiple varieties of combinations with different composites. I’ve also tried selecting different settings and opening and closing Final Cut. I’ve also rebooted the G5 many times. It’s always the same.
