One reason for your observations is that SD-stuff never looks really good on an LCD screen.
But on the other hand you really have an encodig problem.
Compressor is known to be bad a scaling interlaced footage. Encoding from HD sources to SD is a scale and your HDV is interlaced material.
A workaround ist to make a (progressive) SD file from your timeline and to put the finished file into compressor to encode an mpeg2 for your DVD.

[Ceri Allen] “Just another question. I used deinterlace to overcome the probem of the image flickering when played out to a moniter (though it was from a DVCPro timeline). Some of the flickering seemed to be because final cut had automatically added a shift fields filter but others just flickered anyway. Is there anyway to overcome this other than removing the shift fields shot by shot?

put your (edited) HDV timeline into an uncompressed SD (8 or 10 bit) timeline, render, play out to digi-beta.
DVCPro as intermediate for a digi-beta master from HDV project is a really bad idea because the field dominance is swapped twice in this process !
…and this really makes you render stuff unnessecary! -

Hi Bob,
thats true, those are all expensive things that have to be paid ;-). I guess thats why the production has too little left to just finish the whole project that way.
Maybe they got a good deal from a rental house for that camera and now end up in a high end editing world that they cannot really afford. I don -
Great it works!

Hi,
I read in another thread somewhere, that the K3 had issues with the MacPro. You could only run max 2 Gb of Ram to be able to work with the K3.
Is this true and has this been adressed by aja in the meanwhile??
because we intend to purchase a K3 and run it in a Mac Pro with 4 GB Ram.
