I will test Vista64Bit sometime this week. I do have it installed on my BootCamp partition but it expired. .
I’ll have to borrow DVD at work this week and install it again for 30 days.
I’ll let you know results in this thread. Take care.

Sorry about stupid questions in my post. I re-read your post and it all makes sense now 🙂
My Map pro secs : 3.0Ghz x 8 ,8Gb RAM, and source and destination HDD was same boot drive (raptor 150gb). Everything in AE8 was set to default except Multiprocessing check box enabled and cache drive is set to another raptor HDD.
My time was 3min 40 sec.
I Noticed i ran out of memory half way through and was using drive as a cache. I’m guessing it’d be little faster if i had more RAM.
My MacBook Pro specs : 2.4Ghz x 2 ,4Gb RAM, and source and destination HDD was same boot drive as well ( 160GB 7200rpm drive ) Again everything was set to default in AE8 except Multiprocessing was enabled and cache drive was enabled as well but this time on same boot drive.
Time in this thing was 11min 4 sec.
Now question is …. is Mac Pro THAT good or does MacBook Pro suck that bad ?!

artisanal television -> did you use Animation , Quicktime .mov as a export on your test ? I’m benching my 8core 8gb ram right now… will do the same with my 15″ macbook pro newest santa rosa 2×2.4ghz , 4gb ram and report later today.
take care.

Is anyone really surprised about this ?
First , you have Adobe who just dont give two dimes about Mac OS.
This is company that released CS3 on Mac more crippled than previous version 7. (openGL comming soon , yea we heard that before , like OpenGL motion blur fix in version 7 that never came)Second , as much as i love Mac ( bought Mac Pro 8 core and new MacBook Pro ) Tiger has some serious issues under the hood. Tasks jumping from one core to another for no reason, beach balls when network drive is disconnected , old OpenGL (is Apple really using 1.4 version ? now that is messed up).(oh and just tasty Kernel panics with brand new MacBook Pro due to buggy as hell Wireless N drivers , just look at apple’s own forums you’ll find hundreds users with same issue)
Corruption on Windows ? I really dont know what some of you are doing out there but i’m running web server , FTP server , on my media center PC and havent had a single virus or trojan since 2002. Both my mac’s and my server pc are behind router , and all of them run software firewall.
But all in all , Mac OS just feels better designed. I love the fact that when i have an issue i just deal with one company , period , no blaming it on “the other guy”. And for us , Apple users , there’s hope things are gonna get much better. Leopard is gonna use new OpenGL (is this what Adobe is waiting for ? ) , new task scheduler , it’s going to be fully 64bit OS and finally new FIXED Finder.
( sorry for such a long post )

I guess you’re looking for a solution , not “me too” but i’m getting same “lag”. I’m on Mac Pro 8core , 8GB ram ( 4x2GB modules ) with nothing else running. It has gotten alot better when i went up from 4GB to 8GB but then again i’m running 8 instances. However lag is still there and i see good 2-3 second gaps in Activity monitor. This leads me to believe that more RAM will help to eliminate the problem.
I’m waiting for Nucleo Pro 2 , since i didnt have this lag on my PowerMac G5 Quad 4.5GB ram with AE7 and Nucleo Pro.
SUGGESTION : Upload sample aep file somewhere and let’s all try to benchmark it WITH and WITHOUT Multiprocessing checked and post results.

Thanks for reply , but i dont get it. OpenGL from what it looks like didnt get much attention this release, so why is AE7 OpenGL working fine on Tiger yet CS3 has so much problems ?
Also , is Leopard’s OpenGL ( upgraded to 2.1 , i think ) gonna help this situation ?

craig , that is just not true about Flash and iPhone.
Try optimizing Flash for 620Mhz mobile processor. Heck even on my P4 3.0Ghz some Flash sites bring Comp to its knees…..
Now if Apple is so much behind Windows regarding OpenGL than why is Motion about 10 times quicker than AE ? Now i hate Motion’s UI and lack of expressions , but its speed just cannot be disputed.

Hey , i didnt mean to imply anything personal.
On another note , i hope this issue gets attention it needs and here’s hoping for a lot of cancelled order / refund requests until this is sorted out.

at least for now ? What do you mean ?
You actually believe Adobe is gonna release OpenGL update ?
Oh to be young again … you know i was naive once too , when AE7.0 was released and they cripple Mac’s OpenGL compared to Windows’ , PROMISING they’d release an update to fix motion blur and shadows under OpenGL. Needless to say , it took them almost a year to fix HIDE crash bug … so actually expect them to fix OpenGL …. well i just think it’s more of a Motion issue than technical one.
