I usually use the “NTSC Color” filter in Photoshop just before I import back to FCP. I don’t know if that’s why I’ve never seen a big shift, but it might help.

Thanks for the advise. That’s what I was thinking. I’m holding out to get the 17″ MBP this fall.

I’ve also noticed that the only time this occures to me, is when I try and use Capture Now for anything longer than 5 min.

Wow, that worked, but I still get black boxes if I do it by cmd-C then cmd-V. Strange.

    Thanks for your help!

Those are almost always due o some type of capture problem, and I have never had any luck with them. Sometimes they say they’re 20 Gigs, other times they’re only 345k, but I trash them all and recapture. Not worth the risk IMHO.

I’ve since added the external on/off button to my canvas window, but it’s not resolved my problem. If I switch back and forth between FCP5.0.4 and Motion2.0 Motion (sometimes, almost all the time) will loose connection with the monitor. I added the o/off button, in hopes that if I turned the external monitor off and then back on, it would help, but it dosen’t. I have to switch between RGB 8 bit and RGB 10 bit. I’m wondering if it has anything to do with the fact that I use a AJA Io. Maybe it’s a driver conflict? I’ve been back to AJA’s website and haven’t noticed any new drivers for someone not on an Intel Mac…..

Recapturing to another, less compressed codec will have a limited effect if the original footage is compressed from the get-go. Try it though, as a last resort, especially if you’ve never had this problem in the past. Also, I’m not confident that trashing your prefs and emptying your cache will work, but it won’t hurt either.

Sounds like the titles might not be on whole numbers. (Better than whole numbers would be whole even numbers). Does your text have any borders like thin lines? Even though it’s done all the time (heck I do it too) this should be avoided if possible. Any sarif’s? Those don’t play well with video either.

In all, DV is not very forgiving to titles. I work almost exclusive in DV25, and there are a lot of concessions you must make due to the amount of compression given to the format. That being said, there are some workarounds. Try creating a sequence in which your seq settings are for uncompressed 8 or 10 bit. Then drop your titles in. I’ve just started doing this and there is a difference (although IMHO a small one) in which the titles do look better. The down side of this is that all your video needs to be rendered, but it’s a pretty quick render.
