Is there any chance you could use Boris inside FCP for the scroll? I do this all the time when I don’t need to go too crazy with my titles. Besides, Boris usually gives me enough options that I don’t feel gipped on anything. I suggest that, cause I have yet to get satisfactory credit rolls with LiveType of Motion.

Never-mind! Wow, do you ever have those days where no matter how hard you look/think you can’t find the answer, and then after you’ve asked it becomes painfully obvious? I’m having one of those days…… 🙁

I get that d*mn jumpy thing too when I have a lot of layers and a lot of effects. I think it must be some tiny glitch in Motion. (Depending, it could be a very big glitch.)

  • I use Mr. Niles trick all the time, and it works perfectly.

August 4, 2006 at 11:24 pm in reply to: Having a 3D Arrow draw and travel

I made a slate/count down for our company that includes what I like to call “3d.” The numbers for the countdown are orbited by a little planet. I’m not sure what the best way to describe what I did is, but here goes….

    Simplified:
I have 3 layers. Top, middle, and bottom. On the middle layer are the numbers for the countdown. On the top layer, the planet is going from left to right and in front of the numbers. On the bottom layer, the planet is going from right to left and behind the numbers. I added a slight angle to it so it looked more “planetary” and there you go. It takes some time to get the Bezier curves and timing to look right, but it works…. at least until Motion gets a little more 3D….

What a stupid question I just asked! Sorry about that guys.

Anyway, I just ran through the tutorial with stock footage. Wow, does a great job, but the stock footage is so nappy, that it still doesn’t give a very good key. BUT having used your steps, it’s a lot better than it would have been.

Glad I could help! 🙂 This is actually a question that comes up a lot here (“FCP won’t start”), and most people will ignore it. They don’t do it to be mean, but most of the people here only have a certain amount of time to devote, so if they see a question that’s already been asked and answered, they tend to go on to the next one. In the future, try a quick search and many times you’ll find the answer before you have to post, which is great cause it’ll same you the time of writing! 😀

Hope things keep running feel speed ahead!

What if you’re subject is moving from one side of the screen to the next? Will those masks still work with moving footage?

    Step 1.
    User>Library>Preferences>delete the file named “com.apple.FinalCutPro.plist”

    then….

    Step 2.
User>Library>Preferences>Final Cut Pro User Data> delete files “Final Cut Pro 5.0 Prefs” “Final Cut Pro Obj Cache” and Final Cut Pro Prof Cache”

Now restart FCP and everything should be OK. Step 2 is going to revert ALL of your user settings to the default FCP settings. You’ll have to go back and change all your user setting back to the way you had them, but depending, that’s not too bad a task.

    Hope this helps.

August 4, 2006 at 8:43 pm in reply to: AJA Io is shot

So I called up AJA, and they are terrific! As it turns out, it had to do with a firewire driver that Apple makes for AJA. We saw that in my network prefs, the firewire option was grayed out. So we trashed some extensions, and receipts, i re-installed the AJA analog and digital drivers, restarted, and was supposed to see a non-grayed out firewire option. Unfortunately it was still grayed out, BUT since I now knew that I needed that checked, I just created a new Firewire option, named it firewire, and checked it. Problem solved! Thanks AJA, for getting my on track! 😀
