Goshdarnit!!
Sorry about that. It looks like we caused this problem to happen when we fixed a bigger problem before the release.
We’ll have it fixed soon. Stay tuned.

PS – I’ve been told by Engineering that there is likely no workaround for this one so… if you’ve GOT to have that window fully operational, you’re best bet is v1.0.2 for now.

He’s likely referring to the fact that QT 7.5.5 “broke” the Media 100 i codec. Search the forum for “7.5.5” and you’ll see much discussion of it from about a year ago.
In a nutshell, keyframes on clips in bins were black and attempting to play the clips resulted in a “Bad Video Frame” error. The only solution at the time was to jump through many hoops to back up to QT 7.5.
QT 7.6 and beyond “fixed” the problem completely for users of Media 100 v10 and up but left Media 100 i v8.2.3a users with pink (some say purple) keyframes on clips in bins.
Thus, the “last” version of QuickTime for users of Media 100 i systems is v7.5.0.

So… you went for both eh?
The one little speed boost that I continue to love in Snow Leopard is that when the desktop comes up, it’s ready to go, right then and there, no waiting while the disks are churning away finishing up some unknown processes.

Hmmm…
1. M100 is the less disruptive upgrade and it works on Leopard so… why not get your feet wet with v1.0.2 first then go to Snow Leopard when you’ve got a compelling need.
2. The last version of Media 100 that ran on Tiger was version 12.1.3.

More specifically, they need to be “Mac OS Extended” (Journaled is OK too but largely unnecessary). “Mac OS Extended” is Apple’s name for HFS+. The significant feature of this format is that it can support files over 2GBs.
Highlight the drives in question and choose “Get Info” from the File menu (Command+i is the keyboard shortcut). There you can see the format of the drive.
If it needs to be reformatted, move any essential files to another drive and use Disk Utility (YourMacHD > Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility) to reformat.

Micheal,
Lest you think I have no sense of humor, I have composed several snappy comebacks in the last 24 hours. Alas, none have been appropriate in the presence of mixed company 😉

You’re correct, we do have that camera. So it should be an easy test for us to do.
In regards to your email, yes, I got that.

October 10, 2009 at 1:21 pm in reply to: Problem w playback of 23.98 ProRes on M100 SuiteJim,
A few questions that should help narrow it down…
Are you playing the exact same media from FCP as from M100? or are you importing separately into both NLEs and then playing back the respective media files?
When you write it “doesn’t play”, do you mean that it doesn’t display on the external monitor, or that the media doesn’t play at all? (I’m assuming the former)
You wrote that the monitor reports the 1080i, what does it report when FCP is playing the media?

[Rawn Fulton] “why not make Media 100 720P/30PN compliant? “
I can’t say whether it’s a deliberate choice or not. I’ll run it by the Engineers on Tuesday (we’re closed Monday for Columbus Day). I’m not going to make any predictions until I run it by them.
I’ll let you know how that goes.

Rawn,
I forget… have we discussed you getting us some of this footage so we can take a look?
