Actually, FCP will not load with the AVID codecs in the Quicktime Folder.

Not true. However, there is an issue with having many codecs installed, maybe this is what you’re thinking.

If all the original poster has a drive full of Avid media there is nothing that FCP can do to use the media. If the original poster has an OMF 2.0 export of the edited sequence as well as the media files, then Automatic Duck’s Pro Import FCP can allow you to import the sequence and use the Avid media (Pro Import FCP creates QuickTime reference movies, fooling FCP into playing the media). From there you can use the Media Manager to recompress the media into a codec that FCP is more happy to play.

  • My answer on the FCP forum is good, I won’t bother to retype it here.

Try looking around at all the people making AE plug-ins (there are several), see who seems to have expertise that matches what you need, then contact that developer.

    a) Your assumption is incorrect.

    b) 254, 254, 252 would not be broadcast safe anyway

    c) You can tell the difference between 254, 254, 252 and 255, 255, 255?

    d) You’re sure the white in the comp is different than what is in the rendered file?

    e) Maybe your codec is doing the change?

Most of us don’t sit for hours and watch the tape

I do. What better way to get to know the footage you’re cutting? I watch it, sometimes taking notes along the way.

I don’t know, but here’s how I make my Animated GIFs:

Render a Lossless movie out of AE
Open movie in ImageReady (part of Photoshop install)
    Create Animated GIF from ImageReady
