    @jay mitchell

    You could also try Happy Otter Scripts at https://tools4vegas.com/, a set of tools which makes use of open source filters and encoders.
    Here is a screen grab of the Avisynth Filter dialog which shows the resizing filters that are currently supported.

    As shown, other filters include provisions for de-interlacing, temporal de-noising, framerate changes and sharpening as well as slow motion Fx (covered by the resizers dropdown) . At the moment, HOS is still in beta which will be extended through 1 May.

    BTW, +1 for George Dean’s suggestion of uprezzing to 720P. Although you “can” uprez to HD or even UHD, I wouldn’t recommend it unless your final project is one of those frame sizes and you are simply including SD material.

  • A couple of observations. First, I don’t have the camera you are considering–but for my consumer grade FZ2500 which records at AVC Intra 100 for UHD and 200 for HD, the files import into V12 without issue and playback is OK. Second, as far as editing smoothly, your system specs as stated seem to be somewhat modest at best. And third, an upgrade to the latest version of Vegas 16 is currently $150, something I would seriously consider in addition to upgrading your PC. Good luck.

  • The AviDub tool in Happy Otter Scripts https://tools4vegas.com/ already does this. Here is a screenshot of the UI.

    You have the option of rendering events, the selection loop, regions or the entire project. If you choose to render selected events from Vegas using the DebugMode FrameServer, project settings are changed to match media settings for each event. That event can then be transcoded into a high bitrate x264 format or a lossless format such as MagicYUV or UtVideo. The rendered events are then returned to the timeline as an added take to the original event or to a new track.

    Although AviDub was originally designed to enable the use of external filters from Avisynth and VirtualDub, it can also be used for simple transcoding.

    January 7, 2019 at 10:58 pm in reply to: Question about super-sampling

    Hi Marius,

    Glad it’s working for you. Here’s a tip. The Avisynth scripts in the folder usually require the user to make changes tailored to his particular requirements. They oftentimes do not work correctly “out of the box” without changes, as you’ve discovered. Things can get a little tricky for example, if you want to first de-interlace, then change the framerate and finally add slow-motion all in one pass.

    Since the GUI is “semi-intelligent”, it usually (but not always) makes the correct choices. Once you find a script that “works”, simply tick the checkbox “Save as Custom Script” . You can then enter a name and it will be saved in the Avisynth Scripts folder. You can then use that script again in R+ or AviDub. An advantage of using AviDub is that you can render using a lossless codec such as MagicYUV or UtVideo and add that to the timeline without any quality loss before your final project render.

    [Marius Dudu] “Another thing I want to ask, is there any plug-in able to convert right away 29.97 fps to 25 fps. Or a dedicated app, most likely with batch function? This would be perfect because I have numerous videos captured at the speed of 29.97-30 fps, using the smart phone.”]

    You could also try Happy Otter Scripts at https://tools4vegas.com/. There are two tools that support frame rate conversion based on motion vector tools using Avisynth, AviDub and RenderPlus. Here is a screenshot from R+.

    These tools are current in beta testing.

    Hi George,
    At the moment, the answer is “I don’t know”. It all depends upon how much demand there seems to be and whether there are significant problems uncovered during testing. Assuming there aren’t too many problems and there is a reasonable demand, then licenses would be made available for purchase. If lots of problems emerge, the beta period would probably be extended. Sorry I can’t give a more definitive answer.
