thanks for the clue of digging into the error messages… turns out my de-interlace settings were changed.. i was rendering some media for a flash render and forgot about it in my project settings… I’m not sure why Vegas came back to that setting but now i know… de interlace setting was not set to none..
thanks again for all the help on this one… Wayne

yes.. ( ive used vegas since version 4 ) and this is really strange.
i’m using some background layers ,,, i even made sure i “selected all” prior to the render.. just in case.
it’s the track 2 thing that has me confused… how would an mpg video file have more than one track? when no audio is selected?..
I’ll work through this some more.. ive rendered the file several times.. i might render it to an AVI first — that might give me a clue.

January 8, 2009 at 8:36 pm in reply to: capture / digitize dv and dvcam to PC for fcp –well i figured it out.. record video and audio mac..
record audio windows only…a waste of 29 bucks!…
Thanks for the reply Arnie…
You would think that ( after all of this time) Apple would get rid of the attitude so their professional products can integrate with others in the business…
looks like i’ll have to render it out from my time line unless there is another solution out there to capture quick time formats.
I guess it does not make life any easier for the FCP users either – from searching on the subject here and over on the vegas side I get the impression that FCP is hit and miss with AVI at best (not recommended) and I don’t want to deliver something that will just be a problem for them.
if anyone has dealt with both platforms and has a practical solution to get video from my computer to FCP, I’m all ears. ( the problem is– they have a computer but no feeder machine )…
thanks again..

December 19, 2008 at 12:11 am in reply to: prepare dvd window – DVDA 2 – can’t read it allthe only thing i could think of was that it had to do with fonts in windows… so i went to display properties / setting / advanced dpi setting and dropped it down.. like 80&.. bingo.. huge change.. so took it back to 99% and it’s normal looking so something must have gotten out of whack.. but its cool now..

this thread poses another reality of software companies like nero who think they are above ethics or good common business sense.
Far beyond the $75.00 upgrade that is basically up in smoke acording to their “terms and conditions”.. Who really reads that crap and says NO.. if you need a program you say typically say yes.. Especially if it was a company you had done business with and believed in their products. I guess we are Hopefully assuming their terms and conditions would reflect some moral ethic to the quality of their work…
Look at the actual cost of an entire day wasted on this one…
first, I did not make any money,
2nd.. i spent the better part of my day repairing my computer back to normal
3, in addition to not generating billable income that the program was supposed to allow me to do..
I was left that much further behind with work that stacked up in the chain of production thanks to Nero eating up my whole day without an appointment.
So.. in the end.. i could use the burning program that came with DVD architect and have bought a 4 – 6 disc duplicator on EBAY and broken even on my time as billable hours.
Then i would have had a long term return on this rather than just a simple loss and the aggravation of them thinking they can just screw people who actually use products for a living.
I’m spending some time on this thread because in this day and age – if we are to survive.. we have to be productive and that really can’t be accomplished if you end up being taken by surprise on what was once terrific software than is doing nothing more than releasing software that has serious and known issues while they coast along on their previous reputation and hope they figure out what the problem is.
I have a hunch.. in a short while they are going to have a lot more angry people sending them nasty grams.
they sent me an email telling me my refund was against their terms and conditions … even though i can not install it and certainly have not registered it.. I mean that’s as simple as my serial number validation being turned off… who are they kidding…
So.. I broke one cardinal rule that I have never done.
then I replied to their explanation of their “terms”.. i ended my letter to them with “Two Words” that are totally unprofessional in my opinion….. but in this case.. i made an exception.. I’m not sure they understand what “that mean’s” .. but it sure felt pretty good…

Thanks… back in the good old days.. ahead nero was “all business” when it came to burning – and nothing outperformed it in my book.
However… as versions progressed,, they became more of an “office suite of burning” and I found myself with frequent hangs.. and a lot of problems.. So.. out back to the tried and tested Nero 6.X version which was the last of the rock solid releases in my opinion.
I have a photographer business associate who echoed the same thing.. that as nero progress on.. the who thing ending up f$%#%ng up his computer to the point that the only recourse was a system restore and back to a previous Version.
Well.. unfortunately you do not have this luxury if you now into Vista,, because none of them will work in the first place.
Typical of every company that gets “full of itself”… they want to be all things to all people and try to do it all right down to pickup out what clothes you are going to wear.
I think the biggest clue is the ASK.com tool bar. If they were really about being serious as a software company they would not be pushing some ask.com spyware as an added bonus. Here’s some revealng info on that subject:..
”
Q: What about the Ask toolbar itself? Is it worth installing? No. I discourage users from running Ask’s toolbars for two reasons. First, Ask moves the browser’s Address Bar from top-left (where it is found in every browser I’ve ever seen) to top-right. Ask puts its own search box in the top-left. So Ask’s software makes it highly likely that users will accidentally conduct searches when they intend simply to navigate to sites they request by name.
Second, Ask’s toolbar leads to landing pages that are objectionable in their own right. Ask’s landing pages show ten ads — ten! — above the first organic result. On a 800×600 screen, that means 2 full pages of ads, plus a little bit more after that, all before the first organic result. That’s ridiculous. No user deserves that, especially since organic results are safer than sponsored links.”
So.. you have to ask yourself.. is nero about really being a professional media burning program .. or have they prostituted themselves totally for the same of a quick buck and the stereotype that you and I arew the stupid impotent man in the Vonage commercial??.

Thanks Guys.. I might take a little of both… and figure out a system.
Lately i’ve had several projects underway at the same time for the same client.. i started to realize i had media like graphics and still frames, etc. over way too many locations to be comfortable. Some in part because i did not catch vegas placing then with other media files.
Thanks again…

Hi David.. well, to my big surprise when i bought the deck.. it did not have fire wire.. and is not capable of fire wire so I have a big expensive DVCAM deck with zero hours on it just sitting here.
Hmm.. enlighten me about the disk space issues.. are we going back to my media -100 days where the file sizes are enormous?.. i thought that the Decklink HD or SP card would basically capture component or SDI video as avi files..

i don’t charge for rendering either. Clients know I work efficiently and you can render in your sleep.. so to speak..
Or find something else productive to do, like take out the trash and answer email. it all boils down to what you consider a billable hour. So, you have to justify if you think the wear and tear and the electricity consumed to render a project is worth the trade off in good will and the trust from a client who knows that you’re concerned about the bottom line.

One important concept to this is security. I’m where you want to be but it is not for those who are not prepared to be serious risk takers. If you worry about your mortgage payment, phone bill, obsess with having ” cushion of money in the bank…
then this might not be for you.
You should add about 1500 / 2000 per month to your income requirements for GOOD health insurance
Now, if your wife/partner/ etc has a full benefit package and you don;t have to worry about heath insurnace , then go for it.
If you have about 30 – 40 K laying in the bank for the occasional neck, shoulder, back injury, gal bladder attack, knee operation, or heavens forbit.. worse ( and then you’ll need a lot mor money..)
then youre good to go.
Me.. I have a diversivied income.. my wife has a govt. job. if I was on my own, I’d might just homeless right now! ( and she’s the worrier, not me!)
just another perspective… but then again, if the work is there, and you are aware of being responsible enough not to loose your shirt over a medical issue.. then man.. Go FOR IT!!
