Same here. I have a MacPro 2,1 3Ghz 8-core running 10.10.4 and it is fast, breeds new life into the Mac and everything works– FCP 7, X, CS6.

Shutter should always be 1/50 for 178 degree shutter angle if you are shooting video and FPS 23.976. Same for FPS: 60. Adjust exposure with the aperture and lighting.

How are you copying the files to the Mac. There have been some issue with cheap card readers causing corruption — I’ve experienced it. Also, years ago when I bought a Canon 5D there was a firmware incompatibility with my Lexar cards (I know you have Sandisk), but a quick call to them and they swapped my cards with ones with newer firmware and I never had corrupt files again.
Obviously there are a million different reasons why these things happen. This is just my experience.

I use the Mackie MCU with extended faders.

It work great and I’ve programmed the job / shuttle wheel and other buttons to mark in/out, play etc.

Yes. ProRes is 4:2:2 10bit. h.264 is 8bit 4:2:0. You will get banding if care is not taken in lighting and transitioning from the highlights to shadow. ProRes is just cleaner.

No you don’t need the Kona card. I was just stating how my system is set up and all is working. Of course if you want accurate images to color correct, view etc., then a Kona card for a PCIe equipped machine or AJA’s 4K thunderbolt unit for a Macbook Pro is a must 😉

If time is everything and you have to bake in the look, shoot ProRes if you are editing in FCP X & 7, DNxHD for AVID. Remember if you are shooting 2.5K you’ll most likely have to output a 1080 HD version for viewing.
If you have the time and can do decent grading, shoot RAW.

There will come a day when it won’t be supported. Right now it works fine in 10.10.4 with a Kona 4 card to 48TB shared storage.
On your main system if it works as is don’t upgrade, I had to to run AVID and FCP X so I upgraded but I still have a hard drive cloned with an earlier system in case there was a problem. Try an external drive with 10.10.4 and FCP7 for your laptop. Put it through its paces. See if it works for you.

Just a note, if you clean the contacts, use only a white eraser not the pink type and be sure you don’t get any rubbings in the mirror box. You can also use a gold contact cleaner, just go easy on the amount of liquid.
