I have my unit mounted with all the connections facing the front of my rack to make it easier to connect / disconnect any cables.

Bella USA Pro Keyboard is what you want. Full control of FCP with integrated jog / shuttle that controls both FCP and the external decks. Works extremely well.

Capture via SDI via Kona 2 is not buying you anything with DVCProHD and is actually adding another compression cycle.
Capture via Firewire from the 1200A. I just did a test on my FCP 5 system by capturing about a dozen clips from my 1200A and all was well. Capture, playback and edit were fine.

Split your audio in FCP and it will go out the same way to the quicktime.

I heard it from a training instructor one time. Techically I believe Firewire is supposed to be hot-swappable, but I know I tell everyone NOT to connect a Firewire unit that’s turned on. A local VAR had one of their clients fry four G5’s with a 1200A by plugging it into each machine while it was on.
I think the only way to find out if it’s fried is to take it into a support center. If you have multiple devices to try out and it doesn’t recognize anything, then that would certainly be an indication that it’s not working.

Dan, I just installed FCP 5 / Tiger in our second edit suite so I’ll bring the 1200A over there today and see how the DVCPro HD captures go there. But I don’t have a Kona 2 in the second suite, so I’ll be capturing via Firewire.”Captured a dozen clips via Firewire and all was well with FCP 5 and DVCPro HD. Had video playback normally in the Viewer and Canvas. Again, don’t have a Kona 2 in there, but it was a normal capture and simple edit for the test.

Did you by any chance plug in either the deck or the drive when it was powered up? Plugging in a device to the Mac that’s powered can cause the Firewire port on the Mac to be fried.
