This would resolve so many issues and questions. It is a teriffic VTR, plays back the beta tapes, handles the embedded audio.”It definitely was a tough decision to make that initial purchase (almost $12k) but it’s just a great workhorse and take away all the need for any analog inputs on my system. Probably the best purchase I’ve made for the company, next to the K2 of course.

Sounds like you may have mis-matched RAM. Running a different speed or something. Something is definitely wrong with the RAM because if you have all of it installed, you say you have crashes.
Whenever I order a Mac, I get it with the minimum RAM installed by Apple. I then replace all of it with RAM from http://www.crucial.com. I run with 3GB RAM in one G5, 4GB RAM in another G5 and 1GB RAM in my Powerbook. All from Crucial with no issues.

Not sure how else one would “test” a card other than editing with it. Tried it, didn’t like it, went with something else.
Thousands of people use both products, it’s a personal preference really at this point, though I recommend AJA to anyone who asks.

What model cards from BM did you actually test?”Decklink HD Pro sent to me directly by BMD.

What do you mean, exactly, by, “it just performed better?””Installation was a problem with the BMD. Could not get HD to work at all. Could only work in SD, though had some problems there. Overall, very unsatisfactory experience with the product.
Kona 2 installed easily. SD and HD no problems. The cost of the K2 was $2k less than the HD Pro at the time (not sure what the HD Pro goes for now), so I purchased the K2 and the K-Box and would not purchase any other product for FCP at this time.
Solid product, the best tech support I’ve seen in the business and they’re all over OS and FCP updates.

One of my customers has asked me to upload a rough edit of a music video I’m working on to their FTP site, so that they can sign it off, the only problems is I’ve got no idea how to do it!!!!”Purchase Fetch and it makes it a snap. You’ll need the FTP address and password, but all you do is drag your file to the FTP site.

Dan, I just installed FCP 5 / Tiger in our second edit suite so I’ll bring the 1200A over there today and see how the DVCPro HD captures go there. But I don’t have a Kona 2 in the second suite, so I’ll be capturing via Firewire.
Just curious, why capture via SDI? Captures via SDI and Firewire are identical in what we’ve seen here.

If you want Analog / Digital I/O now with the capability to do HD at any time, I’d look at the Kona 2 with the Io LA combination. Kona 2 gives you Digital Inputs & Outputs, SD/HD capability on-board, Component & Composite video outputs, and Unbalanced analog outputs (with the K-Box). The Io LA adds full analog input / output capabilities.
Of course, if you have a DigiBeta deck with analog playback, then you don’t even need the Io LA since you can playback / capture via SDI. I have a Sony J3/902 so I capture BetaSP via SDI, but then lay-back to SP via the Component outputs on the Kona 2.
