You can use Trapcode Lux to create good Spot light effect.

There is a bug in this process.
Follow the steps below:
1. Select the layer which you have imported from PS and Right-Click on it.
2. Now select Layer Styles>Remove all.
3. Press “Cmnd/Cntrl + Z ” to undo the last step.Now if you twirl down the layer, You will notice that the layer styles are there.
Also if you have some text layer and you want to make them editable, Then Go to Layer>Convert to Editable Text. This change the photoshop layer to default text layer of AE.

You were right about the Camera MOve in Z-Axis.
To have better control on camera, Parent it to a Null Object, make it 3D and Apply ” Separate XYZ “.
This will give you Separate controls over All 3 Axis.Also to make a picture look 3D, Here is a tutorial by Andrew Kramer:

Go to Preferences>Previews and check the Audio Preview Duration. make sure its not Zero.
Also check whether the Audio Hardware and Audio Output Mapping is right or not.
You can also try to Increase the Audio level. Increase it to +12db and check the meter again.

You can create this animation all in after effects too.

You can create the book effect using this type of animation.
Also, Using Green Screen to cut out Live Book animation is a good way to composite but for that you have to use Perspective corner pin using Mocha or other Planer Tracking software to show that the character sticks to the page and also matches the perspective of pages when flipping.
