Photoshop Layer Effects Not Importing

There is a bug in this process.

Follow the steps below:

1. Select the layer which you have imported from PS and Right-Click on it.
2. Now select Layer Styles>Remove all.
3. Press “Cmnd/Cntrl + Z ” to undo the last step.

Now if you twirl down the layer, You will notice that the layer styles are there.

Also if you have some text layer and you want to make them editable, Then Go to Layer>Convert to Editable Text. This change the photoshop layer to default text layer of AE.

Hi Vishesh,

Thanks for the tip but unfortunately it did not work. The layers are coming in without any Layer Effects from Photoshop, so there are none to remove.

I’m hoping someone has an idea of what may be causing this. It’s frustrating not to mention time consuming to have to back to the Art Director’s PSD file to see what effects she put on, then switch back to AE to apply them.

Here is a PSD file that I have worked on.

I have applied all the effect in Photoshop and then imported them to AE. And all of them works. After Removing and then Undoing the Procedure.

Try to import this file and let me know whether the Layer Styles are visible or not.

Eureka! and I AM an idiot!

I was poking around the menus and found LAYER STYLES > CONVERT TO EDITABLE STYLES.

Never really paid attention to it, but I was so bamboozled by the fact that Photoshop styles weren’t carrying over, I KNEW there had to be a simple fix. Voila!
