Bunch of answers for this..
Object > Envelope Distort > Mesh.
OR
Create a 4-point square.
Adjust the points with the Direct Select tool to achieve the desired perspective.
Layer above the text.
Select both and Object > Distort > Make with Top Object.OR
Apply 3D rotate to the live text, and it will remain live text.
Just a few ideas..

For an existing object you can Object > Path > Simplify.
For tracing you use custom settings. In earlier versions of Illustrator settings sere available in the Trace drop down menu. Now it has it’s own palette under Window > Image Trace.
You can be very precise with these tools. And you can combine results from different tracings, if necessary, when you need to capture different ranges of detail.

Not sure I’m clear on the issue.
It sounds like you want a compound path, like the letter ‘O’, as opposed to a single path, like an ‘I’.
You could use – Object > Compound Path > Make.
Or, if the inner object is under the outer object – Pathfinder > Minus Back.
Pathfinder > Exclude. You may need to use Object > Arrange > … to get the objects in the the proper layering order.

March 15, 2017 at 11:53 pm in reply to: How to create a repeatable, complex warp for images printed on stretch fabricThis seems more like a Photoshop project.
I’ve never considered this challenge before, but it seems that there are a few caveats..
Initially, it seems that you would just need to shrink the image, then when it is stretched it goes to the right size.
How do you get the right scaling?
It seems that you would have to do an actual production test, with the printed stretch material and the ring. But this idea seems to leverage the expectation that this device will evenly tension the material, which it might not.
Are you seeing an even stretch or is it distorted, such as the center not stretching much but the edges stretch greatly?
If that’s the case, in PS you could try Filter > Distort > Spherize. You could save this as an action, then batch process your files.
Otherwise, if you need more granular control, in AI you could try Object > Envelope Distort > Make with Mesh. You’d have to test the points setting until you find a setting that works for you, but that’s an option. I’m not sure how you might automate this approach, however.Just a few thoughts.

My initial thought is that what you are seeing is just the typical screen redraw behavior in Illustrator. Is this an export or a screen capture?
Which is to say, there might not be anything wrong. If you were going to print, I’d say do a test print. In this case I’d say, run it through your process and test it.AI doesn’t continually rasterize in the same way that Photoshop does and After Effects typically does.
“makes me feel like AI is not compensating for the pixel display, even if one’s working with vectors, which in theory have no pixels until they’re displayed”
Again, this is my initial suspicion, but it could be something else.
Let us know.Vince
