  • Specified number of anchor points on shape… (for morphing in AE)

Posted by Christof Van niekerk on June 12, 2017 at 9:46 am

    Problem:
I have a series of contour shapes (think of map contours) , that I want to animate/morph between in AE.
Problem is… these don’t exist as vectors & are traced in Illustrator which yields a range of different anchor point numbers & positions for each shape.

Is there a way to specify more consistent placing ( & number of) anchor points when these shapes are traced… in order to get a more accurate morph/tween in AE?

Thanks for any suggestions/advice up front,
    Christof

With regard to tracing or altering the number of points…

For an existing object you can Object > Path > Simplify.

For tracing you use custom settings. In earlier versions of Illustrator settings sere available in the Trace drop down menu. Now it has it’s own palette under Window > Image Trace.

You can be very precise with these tools. And you can combine results from different tracings, if necessary, when you need to capture different ranges of detail.
