Cadge31, could you explain why you say GDI is better? My understanding is that DirectX/DirectDraw/Direct3D is newer technology that talks directly to video memory whereas GDI is slower because it has to go through windows to draw. I’m also told that Direct3D takes maximum advantage of any hardware acceleration that is available.

Yes, PPro can capture and edit uncompressed and keep all transitions and effects uncompressed. You just need to use an uncompressed project and have hardware and drivers that interface with your Beta SP deck (e.g. Decklink, AJA, Bluefish).

Sorry for the confusion ljames. I thought you were the fellow (truchiller) trying to convert the coaching videos. It appears I got you two confused and thought you were the same person. Anyways ljames, keep doing what you were doing and sorry for the confusion. Fraps is good software and will output mpeg or divx so you don’t need to use the Canopus DV Type convertor.

I think any newer nVidia card that support Shader Model 3.0 would be best to take advantage of GPU rendering acceleration (e.g. 6600 GT, 6800, 6800 GT, 6800 Ultra, 7800 GT or GTX).

I haven’t upgraded yet but according to Adobe’s website Adobe Dynamic Link is only available in the Production Studio package.

What is the original source of the coaching videos? I’m trying to understand why you’re converting them to DV. It may be the DV files you create with Virtualdub or Tmpgenc are DV Type 1. I don’t think PPro likes DV Type 1, only DV Type 2. You could try downloading a free DV Type converter. It would add the additional audiotrack missing in Type 1 so you can load your DV files into PPro.

You can find more information on how to configure HFX to work with PPro on Pinnacle’s HFX & Adobe forum at https://webboard.pinnaclesys.com/read_threads.asp?WebboardID=6&ForumID=172&lng=1&SectionID=48. I have HFX 5.2 (transitions only) working with PPro 1.5. Others have had mixed results getting various versions of HFX to work.
