  • Adobe Production Studio = One product?

I heard that the Adobe Production Studio is more a single product than a set of individual products. i.e. one serial number to install all apps together.

    Can anyone confirm this?

What is specifically concerning me is the fact that next year (or whenever) I would have to upgrade the entire suite each time rather than individual tools. Is this so?

I confirmed this with adobe yesterday. I was trying to figure out how to upgrade my suite without spending too much money. I just upgraded premiere as an individual program 2 months ago.

Yes, that seems to be so. It is impossible to guess what Adobe will do for certain, but right now there is at least one feature that you can get only by upgrading to the Production Studio, and that is the Dynamic Link.

I suggest biting the bullet (as I just did) and get the Production Studio Premium. Once you have it, the upgrades will be for the entire package and probably be expensive, but better than upgrading them all individually.

I have Adobe Video Collection Professional 2.0. Can anyone confirm that this is the upgrade I need?

The Adobe website will tell you what you need. You just select the product you have, and it will give you your options.

Well, I have pretty much decided to do exactly that.

I currently have PPro1.5, Audition 1.5 and Encore 1.5 that came with my Matrox Rt.X100.

I look at the upgrade as “It’s about time I invested in After Effects and Photoshop” so if I do the Premier pro to Prodction Studio upgrade then I can think of it as cost effective upgrade route.

I’m just left with the thought of an overly expensive upgrade to Premiere Pro 2.5 in a year’s time when that’s maybe the only tool I’ll really need to upgrade.

All I have to do now is wait for stock. It seem the Adobe warehouse is empty over here in the UK.

One other quick question though. What is the HDD footprint for the Production Studio Premium? I did read somewhere (and I can’t find it again) that if youinstall everything (incuding all optional assets) it will require some 15Gb of HDD. I would rpefer toplace assets (Loopology disk?) elsewhere so what is a realistic footprint for the install.

The issue being thatif 15Gb is really needed then I need to get working on re-sizing my C partition cos I have only about 8Gb free right now.

Watch out when you upgrade to the new Production Studio. I just did and I also have the Matrox RTX100. The Matrox tools do not work with the new Adobe Production Studio right now. Matrox has a statement on their website indicating they are “working” on it. Also, your external NTSC monitor won’t work (in the new Production Studio) while you’re editing video (I don’t know about PAL if you’re using that in the UK). I’d stick with Premiere Pro 6.5 until Matrox fixes its incompatibility or Adobe comes up with the patch.

I understand that Premiere pro 2 (and so I assume this equates to Production Studio as well) will install along side premier Pro 1.5.

I’m aware that the Matrox drivers are not ready yet and so was intending to keep PPro 1.5 installed until for use in Matrox mode until the drivers are ready.

is this what others are doing?
