AC3 Encoding with the new Adobe Media Encoder in PPro 2.0
Does anyone know if PPro 2.0 will support native AC3 encoding (through PPro 2.0 and/or the new Adobe Media Encoder) without having to pay the additional cost of the Minnetonka Surcode plug-in? With all the new DVD’s directly from the timeline that they are touting, I’m wondering how PPro will handle this. Yeah, you could go PCM audio onto the DVD, but you will sacrifice the video bitrate and quality quite significantly. If anyone has info on this, please share.

The AC3 encoding is the same in 2.0 as 1.5, you have to buy to acquire the license after 3 free trials.

If you have the SSurcode license with PP 1.5, doyou have to buy it again to use it in PP 2?

What happans when you use the built-in burn to DVD and author in PPro? What options are you given in terms of audio encoding and video encoding? Personally, I never purchased the Surcode AC3 plug-in since I had Encore available on my system. I did all my AC3 encoding in Encore and I’m assuming that Encore 2.0 will still do my AC3 encoding, especially when purchasing Surcode will run another $300.
But if I do not purchase this plug-in after the 3 trials, will I just be able to do MPEG audio and PCM audio from PPro then? I’m kinda curious, especially when Encore can do it without the need to purchase additional software and/or plug-ins. This built-in burn to DVD in PPro seems to be a “light” version of Encore for quick DVD burns, but maybe I’m wrong on that too.

The reason I bought Surcode for PP 1.5 was to do 5.1 audio. I found that I could not do that inside Encore. (Was I wrong?)

I don’t think you were wrong. Encore can use 5.1 ac3 files but will only create stereo ones.
