Open Sequence Settings for the Sequence you are working on. If you right click on your Sequence in the bin and go to Settings a window will pop up that lets you adjust Sequence Settings. In the Audio Outputs Tab select Outputs 2 (if you only have 2 channels of audio) and then select Dual Mono. This will change your left and right audio tracks from Stereo to Mono. Export clips then double click on one to open in FCP viewer and tracks should say Mono (a1) and Mono (a2) instead of Stereo (a1a2).

If you have more than 2 audio tracks you need to correct audio tracks 3 onward to their respective tracks. Example a3 to a3 / a4 to a4 etc…

FC{ sees a1 (odd numbers) as left and a2 (even numbers) as right that is why you don’t need to adjust tracks 1 & 2.

    good luck,

We have had this problem before when one of our suites had large chunks of media mistakenly captured to the System Drive. Is your media going to the correct drive? Have you tried creating a new project and opening the same media that is giving you trouble there?

This might also be a good time to trash your prefs.

I especially like saying, “I’ll take this home with me tonight and play with it after dinner.”

What would that have cost 5 – 10+ years ago. Not to mention being able to make anything even remotely resembling what one would do at the post house AND be usable.

April 29, 2009 at 6:58 pm in reply to: Script to create preset Project Bins – Template

Our facility does the same as Steve’s does. I have a Volume where I keep individual project templates of the shows we produce. This volume is write protected so everyone needs to Save As the project with the appropriate show name and number. This prevents anyone from overwriting the Original Templates. In each project template are the desired Bins, General Elements, and a Sequence with materials laid out in order such as Slate / Countdown / Tease / Open / Sponsors / Bumps, etc… All needed is to fill in the empty spaces in the sequence with new show media.

    hope that helps.

Although having the latest and greatest is well, great, waiting to learn based on rumors of an application being revised and released is not the best idea. As Wayne said, it might save you some money, but you would have lost valuable time learning the program. It can also cost you more money if it will only work at its top end with only the newest of Macs. FCP is a great program and learning it now will only help you when the next version comes along. If you look on the Cow you will see there are still users making money with Version 5 and some of those I spoke to at NAB were hoping for a hint of the next release at the FCPUG Supermeet and there were no rumors about the that rumor released that evening although it was a fun night.

    Good luck with your decision,

If it is still a problem you can add a marker on the desired TRT or other important sections on your sequence and jump to them by hitting Shift M (to jump forward) or Option M to jump back to previous markers.

  • We have found that the requirements vary from foreign company to foreign company. Most often we export the audio as follows.

Full Mix Mono (for track 1)
M&E Mix Mono (for track 2)

for foreign companies that need more than just basic audio and have the ability to retrieve such audio we also export when requested:

Nat Sound Mono (for track 3)
    Music Mono (for track 4)

Remember to check the mix of the M&E tracks if you are mixing stereo music and mono FX down to a Mono audio track to make sure one does not overpower the other.

    hope that helps,

  • The Mp3 audio on the Sequence does not match your Sequence Settings. The audio needs to be .aif. It will always need to be rendered. Rendering all of your video will not render the audio. The Mp3 audio file will either need to be converted or you will need to go to Sequence > Render > Audio and render the audio. On top of that I am sure that whenever you adjust the video or add a transition between video clips above the Mp3 audio you will again need to render the audio.

    hope that helps

April 24, 2009 at 9:46 pm in reply to: Window Layouts

In order to use the 2 Custom Layouts you need to save a specific window layout to them.
In order to do that you need to first hold down OPTION then go to WINDOW / ARRANGE and you will see the 2 options now selectable. This will allow you to set one of the 2 main options.

    good luck
