Apparently exporting an AAF file won’t work with pro tools, how about importing an AAF into avid and then exporting it as an OMF? Whats a good Avid program that can do this?

i’d also be interested to know the answer, i need to provide audio to a post house for the sound mix and they use pro tools…why does premiere suck so much? this program isn’t suited for filmmaking…its absolute shit and doesn’t deserve to be on the market.

  • okay, and if my film goes to television then I simply submit the cue sheet to the network right?

I’ve never filled one out, are they pretty straight forward?

thanks for all that info vince…when i wrote this thread i didn’t have the setting checked off for maximum bit depth (or rate) and that was a huge factor in getting a proper reading on my scopes.

i’ll just keep the levels above 0, and below 100 and it should be good….if only cc’ing was as easy as this.

so what should i be doing about the levels then? do i even need to adjust them to fall within any specific range or should i just adjust them in the even that the picture is too dark or too light?

you think rolling credits need to be de-interlaced??? There’s no video just rolling text on the screen.

I have tried flicker removal and it didn’t take.

  • Thanks for all the help Jeff…I played around a bit with it and you’re absolutely right. I set the whites and blacks as close to 0 and 100 as possible, that is if those levels are relatively close to the 0 & 100 values. I’m careful not to over do it to a point that ruins the image quality. If stretching & tweaking the levels improves the overall quality while keeping the technical aspects in check, then it’s a bonus. After that I might tweak the gamma in order to match it better with the preceeding & following cut, this really makes the flow of images so smoother…but it seems that the image is easily distorted and gamma is almost better to be used sparingly.

I Think I have a pretty good grasp on things now, and now only need to learn about color grading. 🙂

    thanks,

  • i thought the green line on the right side of the waveform was represented peaks of blacks and whites….i was using this to balance the black and white peaks.

am i balancing my levels completely wrong? Should i also be stretching the blacks and whites as close to the 0 and 100 IRE level as closely as possible?

  • here’s a frame grab pic from my cell phone….the line directly below the double line represents 0 IRE…..

keep in mind I used the three-way color corrector to set the levels….i’ve used the “levels effect” but it automatically tells me that my levels are between 0 and 100 when I don’t even adjust the settings….which is really strange….

  • k, i’ll see if i can grab that…..how do i export a still of the waveform?? just like exporting a frame of video if it’s on composite video?
