There are several ways to do this.
One would be to create the versions in PSD and then come up with some sort of transition in AE in between them.
Another would be to use a combination of textures that take the alpha from the first layer (blue channel 9) and use a duplicate of the same layer with Find Edges (invert and a Add Transfer mode for the layer on top.
My choice would be to create a 3d logo using ShapeShifter AE and then animate the reflection map from the blu tones to a black and white grid like image- this will allow for nice reflections and smooth transitions, plus the use of lights to model the edge.Tudor “Ted” Jelescu

You can duplicate your layer, apply find edges and precomp. Use this as a Track Matte for a Adjustment layer that you create on top of the bottom video layer. Apply Sharpen on the Adjustment layer.I am not sure though that this will give you better results than just applying Sharpen directly to the video layer.

April 25, 2013 at 8:50 am in reply to: 3D blocks dancing to the music, and having an image/text on top?Not sure if there’s a solution for the way you build your 3d blocks.
It would be a simple solution with FreeForm Pro or ShapeShifter AE. It should work with the regular Free Form as well.
You can link the audio generated keyframes to the opacity of the depth maps used to extrude the blocks and you can texture with precomps that can have anything inside- color, text, animated text…Just thought of a solution- not the easiest though- planar track with Mocha the top of the blocks and use corner pin data to stick on top a precomp of the shape with text over it.

A simple 2d way of using this is to create the curved shadow shape on a black solid using a mask (Add) and then to feather the sides using two other masks (Subtract). You can add a Fast Blur to soften the Shadow overall.

April 24, 2013 at 1:17 pm in reply to: time-remapping of multiple position valuesIt’s hard to say not knowing how your camera rig is built. If you do not want to use Time Remap on the precomposited scene, I have a hard time to see how that could be created by controlling one slider. I would use a series of Nulls that control the camera (not quite a camera rig) and split the move in segments. I describe this method in this thread:

Unfortunately QT has some issues displaying the color. I do not use FCP so I can’t help you much there.
One thing I do is to make sure that when I render out of AE a 32 bit project I do not linearize the color space.
It seems to me that if you see the color as it should be in QT then it may be a FCP issue. Try using a Rec 709 color profile in AE.Tudor “Ted” Jelescu

ShapeShifter AE will give you speed and easy use of all animation presets from AE and font types and adjustments on the fly.
ShapeShifter AE gives you shadows from AE Lights, the ability to use Reflection maps and combined with Elementary allows for more complex shadows and reflections.
Even more- you get 3d distortion, 3d displacement and using Generator you can create instances of the text and animate them (sort of like a particle generator)https://library.creativecow.net/jelescu_tudor/ShapeShifter-Review/1
