    There are several ways to do this.
    One would be to create the versions in PSD and then come up with some sort of transition in AE in between them.
    Another would be to use a combination of textures that take the alpha from the first layer (blue channel 9) and use a duplicate of the same layer with Find Edges (invert and a Add Transfer mode for the layer on top.
    My choice would be to create a 3d logo using ShapeShifter AE and then animate the reflection map from the blu tones to a black and white grid like image- this will allow for nice reflections and smooth transitions, plus the use of lights to model the edge.
