You can also use CC Cylinder applied to a stripes layer and position all inside the cylinder.

One way to go about it is to create the textured 11 in PSD ( from an image that has numbers or letters burned in wood, or even create the shot yourself ) with alpha. Bring that in AE, animate masks ( as the mask moves from top to bottom, it should also grow right behind the reveal line from center to the edges ) revealing the numbers and add some smoke (fx footage library or shoot some yourself – a smoking match over black will do). Comp over the guitar.

You can’t really do what you’re asking- HD has way more information in the frame than SD. Once you record your image in SD format you’re stuck with that- however, there are a few tricks you may want to play with.
I will suggest post production tricks only, since we’re talking about existing footage.
Red Giant has this plug-in, Instant HD

You can try using that to enlarge your SD footage to HD, and then resize back to SD again.
Magic Bullet can be used also.
Or try to remove grain, sharpen a bit and maybe play with some masks to blur parts of the image to give the impression of depth of field.Tudor “Ted” Jelescu

If you have CS5, you can use the roto brush to create a garbage matte around the actor, comp that layer on top of the unaltered original and then apply the glow. Play with Matte chocker to adjust the matte and thus the glow.

One thing at a time- to fill the text with image you could load up the image in AE as a layer and use the text layer as a matte

From what i remember AE7 did not like just any audio- wav or aiff worked best- mp3 caused problems. Maybe you should try exporting the audio as a separate file (one track) and bring that in AE for preview.
