  • How to make 3D striped background?

Posted by John Isaacks on August 27, 2010 at 3:51 pm

I have a camera rotating to look at some 3d layers.

I would like the entire scene to have a striped background.

If I just set the stripped background to not 3d it will always be there but will not move with the camera and look unrealistic.

I am envisioning a striped background wrapped in a circle around everything so as the camera rotates in the center, it always sees the striped background but the stripes move with the camera rotation.

I don’t know if thats the actual best way to create the effect I just hope that illustrates what I am tying to achieve.

So how can I create this effect?

That makes sense, isnt there a way I can use a null object to tie the stripes all to it, to position them in a perfect ring. I read a tutorial like that a few years ago.

Yes that is the one, I remember. I am have trouble relocating the tutorial tho. I search the tutorials for “circle of cows” but can’t find it. Do you have a link?

    Thanks!!

You can also use CC Cylinder applied to a stripes layer and position all inside the cylinder.

There a plugins called trapcode Horizon, It will add a big sphere to your scene, as a background, and you can put any image/video on it.And it will move with your cam as well!

An alternative (and there are many) is to make the stripes 3D and use CC Repetile to expand the layer’s dimensions enough to cover the camera move.

This pt_panorama script will arrange a comp into a nice 3D pane background. You might want to add some other stripes in front etc for variation, but it could look good.
