I am sure this can be done several ways, the question is how do you want the transition to look like? Is it a morph or does the line animate to form the letters one by one? Is the file you posted the final look? Let us know and we can provide better feedback.

I have used templates a few times, when the Time & Budget equation did not permit the creation of custom designed element. I did not use the exact template, but rather elements to create my own final product. There are quite a few decent free templates out there for simple projects. Here’s one site I used:

All the previous advice can work. I would also recommend a color range key and try to key out the black- then invert the key.

Either render uncompressed from AE and use a compression soft, like Adobe Media Encoder to compress to a H264, mp4, f4v or flv container, or just open the AE comp in Encoder and render straight from there.
Use Variable bit rate, two pass and if you have gradients and lots of motion, keyframe every frame.

I think that there is always power in numbers- it would not make snse to develop/add a feature for just a few folks, no matter how awesome it is if the vast majority will not show interest.

It is best either to open the AE project in Adobe Media Encoder, choose the desired Composition and compress from there or render a uncompressed or a slightly compressed codec (like ProRes) from AE and use Encore to Master your DVD.

Another way to do it is to create a new Solid Layer and give it the initial desired color (red). Apply Effect/ Hue/Saturation and keyframe the effect at the first frame, go to the end, rotate the hue wheel to change to desired final color (blue) – keyframe is set automatically if you have not changed that in the prefs.

Enable Time Remapping by right clicking on the layer >Time>Enable Time Remapping (this creates a keyframe at the beginning – keyframe 1- and another at the end – call it keyframe “z”) on the layer and set keyframes at the first frame you want to extend (keyframe 2) and the one after (keyframe 3). Then go to the next frame you need to extend and set up Keyframe 4 and after that one 5, and so on until you did this for all the frames you need to extends.
Select then all keyframes starting with keyframe3 to “z” and drag to the right as many frames as you need the still frame to be. Go then to next keyframe 5 and select all others after and move them to the right with as many frames as you need the second still frame to be and so on till the last frame.

To be short and direct- because it was a pain to work with.
Long term answer- with all the new 3d implemented in AE, one can only envision that Adobe is planning to build in new 3d features in the next versions.
For now there is AtomKraft (just launched the beta)or the reliable Zaxwerks Invigorator Pro (or Animator)
