I knew about the little green balls. But what I guess I was asking was if there was a way to create a set-up with the additional audio channes always turned off, as opposed to manually going in and turning them off all the time (well, not ALL the time, just after I’ve trashed the prefs or crashed)?

Okay – phase one complete. I’ve set up the audio and mapped it to all 4 channels from the sequence control panel. The decks are seeing all four channels.

First q- what I had to do to get FCP to send out mono mixes of the program’s audio to BOTH channel 3 AND 4 was to export an .aiff file (converted into mono), reimport it, and then drop it onto TWO layers, assigning one layer to channel 3 and the other to channel 4. Is that the simplist way?

Second q – is there a way to export a QT movie with this same configuration (1&2 Stereo, 3&4 both mono)?

Okay, here’s the issue: I’m doing a historical documentary. The camera interviews were originated in 720p 24n (it looks great and uses less space on the P2 cards). Much of my archive material is old 16mm film shot at 18fps. I had it transferred on a pseudo-telecine machine called a Sniper-16. The Sniper only outputs to NTSC 29.97, though. I can’t run a reverse telecine on the footage as that only works on footage originated at 24fps. And re-transferring the footage at a higher-end facility is not an option. So, rather than converting the archive material, I’m thinking it might be easier to convert the A-Roll.

Any ideas?

The drive speeds average out at 295 MB/s.

Sorry for the delay – the IT person was in a mtg.

The transfer goes through a 4-gig fibre switch, through the fibre optic cables and into a Roarke Data SATA Raid drive.

And I did use Easy Set-Up in FCP.
