I reviewed the manual and followed the procedures beginning on page 95. I tried both methods for reingesting the P2 media and in both instances, fcp went looking for a device to grab the files from. Both times, fcp began trying to initialize a deck, the gave me an error message saying, “Unable to Initilize Video Deck.” This procedure seems to assume that I’m trying to reingest from the actual P2 cards. However, we keep all of our P2 media stored in folders on a NAS server (I edit for a PBS Station and we have too much media to keep it stored on the cards). The instructions for reingesting media from folders seems a little more vague.

Did I miss something? Is there a way to point the files in the browser window to folders stored on a server?

Oh – and for the record – I did originally import the media into fcp 5.0.4, then upgraded to 5.1.2 while the media was on the drive. I’ve since dumped the original qt files (not the .mxf files, but the qt files made during the import done with 5.0.4), and re-imported the media using File>Import>Import P2 Media. The .mxf files have remained in the same location – on a server – all along.

Hey Jeremy.

Thanks for all the help. For whatever reason, fcp doesn’t seem to want to “batch” re-import. I have to force it to go clip by clip. If I select multiple files, then tell it to reconnect the media, it doesn’t recognize the P2 name – even though it’s still exactly the same. If I turn off “Matched Name Only,” I can then re-select each individual clip one at a time. What am I doing wrong here?

Shane – you were helping me last week with the “jitter” problem. Here’s what’s what:

No, I didn’t rename any of the files. They were straight imports from the individual folders that the .mxf P2 files were placed into. Yes, I did start a new project and re-import the files into that project. The project was set up with the same parameters as the program.

Jeremy – you said “All you have to do is select the offline clips and select batch capture.” Can I “Batch Capture” to import the files instead of reconnecting the media?

Bruce, et.al,

I’m having the same issue. Footage was originated on a Panasonic HDX 200 P2 camera at 23.98 and edited in FCP with matching rate. I was told that an upgrade from FCP 5.0 to FCP 5.1.2 addressed the issues working with 24 (23.98) frame rates. And while it has helped, it hasn’t totally resolved the issue. I’m still getting the duplicate frames. Does ANYONE have any ideas here?
