720p60 P2 HD Dropped Frame Issue

I’m having a dropped frame issue in FCP with some P2 720p60 footage. I can’t get it to play through a sequence without freezing and giving me a warning. We’ve narrowed it down to an apparent processor issue. There are two tracks of audio (a stereo pair), and two tracks of music (again, a stereo pair). When we turn off the music, the sequence plays fine. But when the music goes back on, the sequence chokes. The funny thing is, I just did an HD project shot in 24p/n with several tracks of audio and several tracks of video and, aside from needing to render certain things, it played fine.

Any ideas?

Here are the specs:

P2 footage originated in 720/60p

AUDIO/VIDEO SETTINGS:
Sequence Preset: DVCPro HD 720p60
Video Playback: None (there isn’t an output card for this computer).

SEQUENCE SETINGS:
Frame Size: 960×720 (HD 960×720 16:9)
Pixel Aspect Ratio: HD (960×720)
Editing Timebase: 59.94
Compressor: DVCPro HD 720p60
Audio Rate: 48 kHz
Depth: 24
Config: Default

Any ideas here?

Nope, harddrive issue. Your drives are not fast enough to play the footage and 4 tracks of audio. Either they’re too slow, too fragmented, too full or all of the above.

Processor never has anything to do with dropped frames, it’s data throughput from the drives.

The storage drive is a 3TB Raid drive over a fibre optic server connection.

then you have a problem with throughput right now on your system. that should be plenty fast enough, what are your drive speeds right now?

Sorry for the delay – the IT person was in a mtg.

The transfer goes through a 4-gig fibre switch, through the fibre optic cables and into a Roarke Data SATA Raid drive.

And I did use Easy Set-Up in FCP.

Not what I’m asking. I’m asking you what is the drive speed as in how many MB/s is your RAID getting right now?

For example, my CalDigit 5 Drive SATA Array is running approx. 225MB/s, our LaCie SATA Array runs 125MB/s, our G-RAID 800 runs approx. 80MB/s

The drive speeds average out at 295 MB/s.
