How do I add pull down to 24p clips?

What are you trying to do? Why not edit on a 23.98 sequence, since your footage is 23.98?

I’d have to agree. If you complete the project in 24p then add the pulldown you’ll always have the option of both 24p and 30i should you want to output the project again. If you start with 30 you’re struck with it for good.

Okay, here’s the issue: I’m doing a historical documentary. The camera interviews were originated in 720p 24n (it looks great and uses less space on the P2 cards). Much of my archive material is old 16mm film shot at 18fps. I had it transferred on a pseudo-telecine machine called a Sniper-16. The Sniper only outputs to NTSC 29.97, though. I can’t run a reverse telecine on the footage as that only works on footage originated at 24fps. And re-transferring the footage at a higher-end facility is not an option. So, rather than converting the archive material, I’m thinking it might be easier to convert the A-Roll.

Any ideas?

What do you have the most of? What do you need to deliver? My thought would be to upconvert the Snipered footage to DVCPRO HD. Because all your main footage is DVCPRO HD.

Captured at DV res and resized and rendered for the offline cut, then upconverted the selects using a Terranex when the show locked. Cheaper than upconverting everything. Resize and render is neglegible after you have been doing it for a while…becomes second nature.
